The special offer is available to owners of Saabs three years old and over until the end of April 2007. For just £32, inclusive of one year’s AA Roadside Assistance, technicians at Saab dealers will carry out a visual inspection of all the main functions of your car and provide you with a written report on their findings.
As well as safety-critical components such as brakes, hubs, steering and tyres, the inspection covers electrics, lights and wipers/washers, clutch and transmission operation, lubricant fluid levels and checks for leaks, battery condition and checks on suspension, exhaust, drive shafts and seatbelts.
A no-obligation report on the technicians’ recommendations will be supported by a fixed price quote should any faults be found during the inspection. If you already have breakdown cover, you can defer the commencement date of the AA Roadside Assistance included in the Saab offer for up to 12 months.

Used Saabs get post-warranty check
If you own a pre-2005 Saab, here's important news. The firm has launched a comprehensive safety check for vehicles no longer covered by the original new car warranty. The offer, which runs until the end of April, costs £32 and includes a full written report and one year's AA Roadside Assistance.

Thankyou for that link John. A not to be missed opportunity even though I am in the AA and the car was serviced last month

They will allow you to defer the new AA membership for up to twelve months to allow for your current breakdown cover to expire.

I have just returned from having my car checked out by Haymill, who rather strangely didn't charge me anything. I seem to have the usual minor leak from the front nearside corner of the cylinder head gasket, and a weeping steering rack end and they also pointed out that my winter tyres are H rated. I suspect they don't often get to see winter tyres, but at it's good that they checked. Sadly they did not notice the persistant clicking sound that occurs as I move off, and is slowly driving me (even more) nuts.

I have my check this afternoon, I'll report back on how it goes.

OK, had my report done at my local dealer.
This is what they check:
External
Brake noise/feel
Clutch transmission/operation
Engine noise/smoke
Glass/mirrors/wiper blades
Lights/electrics
Mandatory lights (external)
Horn/wipers/washers
Underbonnet
Oil/water/fluid levels/anti-freeze
Oil/water/fluid leaks
Battery condition / drive belts
Brakes/Hubs
Linings - pads/shoes
Discs/Drums
Hoses/pipes/cables/wheel bearings
Master cylinder/servo/brake fluid condition/temperature
Underside
Exhaust system/catalyst
Steering/suspension
Drive shafts/gaiters
Oil leaks
Wheels/tyres
Nearside front
Offside front
Offside rear
Nearside rear
Spare
Alignment
They give an indication and/or comment on each item, normally ticking RED / AMBER / GREEN depending on what level of attention (if any) the item needs.
Unfortunately my dealer did not specify that my low-tone horn was inop, nor did they check the wheel alignment. They did tell me that there were some stone chips on the windscreen - but even I can see those.
They gave me a piece of paper with a reference number on and said that the AA will be writing to me. They advised that they understand that the AA offers upgrades to the roadside assistance that this vehicle check provides.
I'll report back when I hear from the AA.

Mark, there is a similar vehicle check advertised in Saab Torque magazine. This is a free check but does not carry the AA cover.
An update on mine, almost a month on from the check and I have not heard anything at all from The AA.
The dealer gave me a 'Validation Certificate' detailing 12 month roadside assistance, which he told me I could upgrade to another level of cover with The AA. I have telephoned The AA and they have no information on me or my car at all. They gave me a number to call: 0845 300 9593 which turns out to be Saab GB Customer Service. They could not offer any help over the phone and said they would call me back.

I have also checked my allegedly weeping steering rack. There is a small amount of oilyness on the boot, but no reason to believe that it comes from inside. However, the fluid level was down, which motivated me to clean the reservoir and the oily bit underneath and tighten the hose clips. I now do not seem to have a leak, for which I am rather grateful.

Damn! Too late, only just found this thread. Hopefully they will run the offer again soon

Guess what. Nobody from Saab GB called me back

Well, three days later and still no call back from Saab Customer Relations. Not relating to their customers very well, are they?
Different chap on the other end of the phone, did not try to fob me off straight away, but did put me on hold for ages after asking my registration number and name.
First of all Saab GB denied any knowledge of this scheme, despite Sarah Kenworth, Aftersales Director of Saab GB, being quoted in the press talking about this promotion. Then he said it might be something to do with them but he was not sure.
