    Blown heater/blower resistor

I was wondering if anyone could possibly help or give me any information? I have a '96 9000CS and the blower fan became faulty in September (it only works on fan speed 4 (full)). I read on an online parts website that it was the heater/blower resistor that had gone. I promptly ordered one and fitted it and everything worked fine. I didn't drive the car for a couple of days, and the next time I drove it I noticed a burning smell, and 2 minutes later the fan was again only working on full speed (with no aircon). Before I get another resistor, can anyone tell me if they have had this problem before, and if so if it is easily rectified? Thanks in advance for any advice!

    Welcome to Saabscene

The fan working on speed 4 only indicates that the thermal fuse that is tied to the resistor has failed. The fact that it has happened twice suggests to me that perhaps your fan motor is going faulty, causing the resistor to overheat.

More info on changing the fuse only here and possible causes here.
