    Boot light switch

Can someone please tell me where the Boot light switch is?

Yesterday I tried to start the car (have not driven it for 4 or 5 days), it barely started.
Voltage was 10.4 volts, the boot open light on the dash was lit. When I checked the boot it was shut. I suspect the boot light is staying on and draining the battery.

    Mazy,

I'm sure that someone else will correct me if I'm wrong but the boot open light is activated by a switch in the catch like the door ones, it doesn't actually switch the light on. There is a manual switch on the boot light so you can put it off there. I think ( this is where things are hazy ) that the manual switch is linked to the sidelights or to a tilt switch, probably in the tailgate that turns on the light.

You were very lucky to get a start if the voltage was 10.4 prior to trying. Are you sure you are not seeing the minimum voltage during stating. This holds for a few seconds after starting. The system defaults to this them reverts to whatever you have it set to. I think you're meant to note the 'normal' starting voltage then use this figure as an indicator of immanent battery failure. I've never been that organised in 11 years of 9000 ownership.

    Paul @ Kippen.

    Paul,
The boot light switch is activated by the actual catch mechanism. There is a micro switch in it that is activated when you turn the key (or press the release button). It could be that this is failed or jammed.

The easiest way to check if the light has gone out is to push the jaw of the catch shut with the boot open, or on a hatch, close the boot with the parcel shelf folded back.

    Re: Boot light switch

    Thanks gents.

I had this porblem once before, switch on ignition, wait for all warning lights to out, then I notice the boot open part of the pictogram is lit. Start the engine and I notice a lower than normal voltage (usually 11.7 - 12.0 volts).

The battery is only 2 years old (Bosch 74Ah). Normally I dont have a problem starting the Saab, when I went on holiday, the car was left on the drive for 21 days. Started first time when I got back , Compared to our Honda which was completely dead.

Paul you have given me an idea, I got a tilt switch in the garage. I will bypass the pesky micro-switch with the tilt switch.
