Mobil1 in Carrefour supermarkets
Just brought back several 5L containers of 0-40W Mobil1 from Carrefour in France. Less than £25 each! The 0-40W only seems to be in the larger branches, but they all have 5L of 5-40W at about £23.
I was wondering if the springs could take the load in the boot and if customs would try and accuse me of smuggling in oil (don't think my eight year old son would have a personal allowance for engine oil )
No customs at all at Plymouth (just a huge queue - French side at Roscoff much quicker) so no problem, but where's all the decent food gone

Re: Mobil1 in Carrefour supermarkets
Did something similar in June, tremendous price for Mobil 1, no-one wants cigarettes or booze of me anymore.
Carrefour in Ouistreham/Caen still has good food. They're still my favourite supermarket, love the seafood and salad/vegetable areas.

Sorry - I meant over this side of the channel. When you see what you can buy over there and at fantastic prices too...
We always look for Carrefour - last day of holiday is go mad and buy everything we can then wonder how to fit it all in the car. Pity so many things wouldn't survive the journey back up to Glasgow.
Petrol is cheaper at SuperU than Carrefour (only found out on the second last day ) but price isn't much better than various parts of the UK. Interested to find out that Glasgow is cheaper than Plymouth, Oxford or Preston at 93.9 from Shell garage just down the road (compared with Sainsburys in the other places).

Re: Mobil1 in Carrefour supermarkets
I know what you mean about petrol prices. France is only six miles away for me (I live just outside Portsmouth) I used to cross the channel with close to an empty tank and fill up on the other side for the holiday, and made sure I returned with a full tank. Its not so crucial anymore.

Re: Mobil1 in Carrefour supermarkets
Oil is indeed cheap over there, and the trip before last I returned with 25 litres of 5W40 Mobil 1.
This time I ordered some via my parents who got back yesterday.
Mobil 1 5W40 - 5 litres + 1 free for £23.
I am happy using the 5W40 as it is a recommended oil for the 9000 so don't see the point of 0W40.
Considering 1 litre of Mobil 1 costs £13 in Halfords, it is a tremendous saving!
But why is it so expensive here?

Re: Mobil1 in Carrefour supermarkets
I think I saw 4 litres of Mobil 1 for £38.99 in Halfords yesterday!
Perhaps the French use it for cooking as I don't think they have any cars that warrant it's use.

Re: Mobil1 in Carrefour supermarkets
Received my lovely Mobil 1 yesterday :
6 litres for 33 Euros works out at £22.50
If a 4 litres is £39 in the UK, and 1 litre bottles are £12.99 as they were at the weekend, buying the same volume would costs £65 (or £58.5 if you bought multiple 4 litre bottles. Why 4 litre bottles? They sell it in 5 litres in France and who has a car with a 4 litre oil capacity?
So the French version is either 1/2.6 to 1/2.9 the price of the same thing in the UK.

Re: Mobil1 in Carrefour supermarkets
It is a bit to far from Aberdeen to Calais just to pick up some Mobil 1
But Costco is just up the road and 4L of 0 W 40 costs about £23
They are pretty good for tyres too so long as you want Michelins. Just had 4 fitted to the CSE for less than mytyres quoted for supply only.

Re: Mobil1 in Carrefour supermarkets
Glasgow is a bit too far too, but combined with a holiday (and a fight to fit everything back in the car) it's a great deal. I don't know why we get smaller and more expensive 0W40 here - 5 litres is much better for filling a sump.
€35 was the cost in Carrefour for the 0W40.
