Strange goings on
Hi ive got a 2001 9-3 TiD 125BHP 80,000 on the clock the problem is on a journey from sheffield to birmingham the car was only achieving 35 MPG instead of the usual 45MPG but on the way back went back upto 46MPG then after i got home i went out again drove less than 1/2 mile the enginer management light came on and seemed to go into safe mode drove straight back home turned off then on again and the light went out and seems fine
WHATS GOING ON any help thanks chris

Re: Strange goings on
Hi, if the car is running okay it might be an electrical fault. Your best bet would probably be to get the car hooked up to a tech II which would say exactly what has been registered on the computer (the chances are if the engine management light came on the computer registered a fault code).

Re: Strange goings on
Probably the Mass Airflow Meter, but these often do not throw up a CEL (check engine light) but that would be the first thing I would have looked at!

Re: Strange goings on
People do clean them with varying degrees of success, because of what I do for a living, I will always buy new ones, otherwise the problem does not stay fixed. The other thing you refer to is probably the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) same issues really, you can try but you won't necessarily succeed, you need to ask the real techies who inhabit this site!

Re: Strange goings on
I had a similar problem. Fault monitoring indicated air mass air flow meter. It turned out to be faulty wiring to this meter. A new connector solved the problem.
