CD Player & CD-R's
Hi All, I have the bog standard single slot 7 speaker stereo in my 9-3. The manual states that copied cd's cannot be used in the player due to an issue with overheating.
Anyone here use cd-r's? Is this really an issue? Strike me down for saying this but I used to be a fleet driver and have had years of Vauxhall's - never had a problem in those players.
Your recommendations would be appreciated,
Mark

Re: CD Player & CD-R's
Well... I have been using CD-Rs in my CD multi-changer since June 2005 with no problems at all!
Before that I have used them in other cars for the past 3 years...also with zero problems!
No worries, then!

Re: CD Player & CD-R's
I've got the same set up, and use CD-R's all the time, without any problems! Sometimes CD-R's can take a bit longer to load but they still work. This was one of the first things I tried when I got the car. I have a lot of mp3's which i wanted to play as compilations in the car so I converted them to 'normal' sound files and burned cd's. Plz note the CD doesn't play mp3 file discs - maybe it will in the future!?

Re: CD Player & CD-R's
I use them in my Six CD Dash mounted autochanger and they work fine. I have heard from my dealer that as they are "supposed to be" slightly thinner they can get stuck in the unit. Whether that is true I don't know.
I use them as I don't want the originals in the car.

Re: CD Player & CD-R's
I think the reason they warn against CD-R's is that some people use those PC programs that print CD labels to stick on their CD-R's, and these can get overheated and peel off in the units which usually mullers the unit.
I've used plain CD-R's in the boot multi changer of both my C900SE, 9k Aero and now my 9-5 Aero with no problems over 10 years and in the single slot players of loan car 9-3's and 9-5's with no problems either.
My missus Focus Ghia has the 6 disc in-dash CD changer and that has had problems, but only with shop bought pre-recorded CD's.....
It plays CD-R's perfectly.....

Re: CD Player & CD-R's
I have experienced the failure of CD-Rs, they start to play ok, but after a while there is a slight "ticking" sound which gets louder and then they start to jump and skip.
to be fair, the CDs I tried were quite old ones.

Re: CD Player & CD-R's
I have found that if you burn your CD-R at a low speed (10x and lower)then they work fine. If i burn them at 48x then the Cd unit fails to read them properly.

Re: CD Player & CD-R's
Recently I've been using up some 16x CD-Rs to copy my CDs to put in the dash mount autochanger and they play more consistently than retail versions especially when it is cold.

Re: CD Player & CD-R's
I always use the Audio Only CD-Rs, they work much better in my opinion, but you do pay a slight premium for them.
