Fat tyres on thin ramps.
I've finally ordered my rear anti roll bar & am looking to fit it this weekend as long as it stays dry.
I've borrowed a set of ramps from a chap at work, but they seem very skinny.
Great if you've got a car with narrow width tyres, but the Aero's 215's will overhang at both edges.
The issue I've got is that the ramps have a thin metal vertical edge on each side which would be where most of the weight would be. I'm not keen to put the full weight here as it looks "painful" for the tyre.
I see that I several options.
1. Use the ramps as they are & don't be so daft the tyres will be fine.
2. Put a board over the offending edges to help distribute the weight.
3. Find some other wider ramps.
4. Find a high kerb/edge & back the motor over this & do the work there.
Has anyone any views? or wider ramps in the Bristol area

Re: Fat tyres on thin ramps.
You'll be unlikely to find wider ramps, but you might also struggle to get your aero onto them due to steepness of ramps and long low overhang at the back of the car. Mine wouldn't go up my ramps.
If you can manage this, a board would do fine, between the lips on your ramps. But best thing is just to jack it up? You don't need a huge amount of height to swap the ARB and no need for wheels to come off.

I thought standard Aero rubber was 225s....
Mine sits on 205s at the moment, but they are winter tyres

9-3 Aeros have 215/45*17
9-5 Aeros have 225/45*17 (or 235/45*17 in MY2006)

Re: Fat tyres on thin ramps.
9-3ss Aeros have 225/45/17, original 9-3ss vectors came with 215/45 but they reverted to 225s after a bit.
My 9-3 Aero now has 225s, much better than 215s IMHO...

Re: Fat tyres on thin ramps.
Our Vector Sport came with 215/50 17

Maybe that's what I meant...

Mine actually has 225s when the weather warms up - on the standard aero rims
winter wheels are the Vector type, and winter tyres are usually narrower.
I think that in 2003 there were 2 tyre sizes for the Aero, some were on 215 and others were on 225s.....

Re: Fat tyres on thin ramps.
I found that the 215/50 17 tyres were so expensive that it was cheaper to buy 4 225/45 17 in place of the 3 smaller ones I needed. Two worn front tyres and a nail in the sidewall of the rear one.
The bigger tyres just rub on the wheel arch liner on full lock.
