    AIC on 2.0i Engine

My car will not idle - i gather from other posts this is likley to be the AIC but after a good look at the weekend i failed to locate mine - is it meant to be below the thermostat housing between the head and the fuel injection system?

Any assistance greatly apprecaited as it is very difficult to drive in this condition!

At the top/back of the engine, at the edge of the rocker cover, there is a silver cylinder with a set of wires at one end and two pipes coming out of it, with a wide rubber band holding it on to the engine, undo the wires, disconnect the two pipes and slide it out of the rubber ring, use carb cleaner to flush the valve through ( i plugged the hole that comes straight through the valve, wedged it upright, and fill the other valve hole with carb cleaner and leave for an hour, then flush the valve out), picture of the Bosch valve below.

    Carl,

Did you manage to find this? I also have a 2.0i with DI and can't locate the AIC valve even after following these instructions.

    Re: AIC on 2.0i Engine

    Hi Carl

If you have a normally aspirated, trionic engine, the AIC is well hidden. I'm not sure when I will next look at this site so below is a location for this engine - sorry if this is not relevant to your model.

It is underneath the top part of the two-part inlet manifold. I could not see any other option but to remove this top bit, no space. This meant removal of the throttle body and wiring, and various torx screws fixing the top part of the inlet manifold. The oil filler neck has to be detached, but this is on a clip, and will move if pressed down. Some of the screws are a bit fiddly, you will need a set of Torx keys to remove the ones at the timing chain end of the engine. Once the manifold is loose, some of the various vacuum tubes/breather pipes have to be detached from the manifold, to allow the manifold top half to hinge away from the engine, and reveal the AIC. It is not necessary to remove all the pipes to do this.

The AIC is then accessible, and looks like all the pictures on this thread.
P.S. Cleaning the AIC did improve my most severe idle problems, although I suspect a leaky vacuum tube somewhere may cause the odd bit of bad behaviour. Cleaning the butterfly valve in the throttle body seemed a good idea as it was out at the time.

Many thanks for that - i had in fact just located the bloody thing myself and was then wondering if it would come out without dismantling the inlet manifold -apparently not but if anyone knows better then please do tell.

Mine is held in by the hoses and a rubber bracket, takes less than a minute to remove. Presumably other variants are not os simple?

    Re: AIC on 2.0i Engine

Job now succesfully completed although getting the hoses back on underneath the inlet manifold was extremely difficult. The car does not stall now when idling although the idle speed seems a bit high 1200rpm - is this controlable elsewhere?
