Power Steering

I switched on my engine today of my 4 month old Vecto Sport and couldnt turn the steering wheel. I lifted the bonnet, couldn't see anything wrong. After switching the engine off then on, it was ok. Anyone else know if this should be cause for concern?

Did the Steering wheel lock release make a sound at all, when you put the key in the lock. I was wondering whether the steering lock didn't disengage

Sounds like the steering lock, I had the same problem recently - the key hadn't engaged properly to release the steering lock.

you normally get a "bing bong" and a SID message when this happens.

I cant remember hearing any sounds but steering lock does sound plausible.

I don't understand how you could get anything from the SID, if your key isn't engaged - I didn't anyway

I've encountered this "jammed column" a few times, and found that by removing and reinserting my key it clears.

However, yesterday it all went Pete Tong...have just posted a new thread...it failed completely ("Steering lock malfunction").

I'm not sure whether the jamming column was an early sign of a problem...
