    Sat Nav DVD

Sorry if this question has been answered 100 times before, but... Does anyone know where to get the 2005 Sat Nav DVD from, besides the extremely costly Saab dealer? I'm thinking there must be someone selling cheap versions of this, and I could really do with it - although the 2003 DVD I have is not without it's charms - how I laughed to find that the M6 Toll didn't feature - think I lasted 10mins on the toll road listening to her going on about turning at roundabouts etc before stop guidance became critical to her health.

Oh yeah - can that voice be changed to something else? That would be pretty good, but I'm sure a feature Saab will have neglected to add, just like the postcodes which is mind-boggling how they omitted that gem.

    Cheers,

    >FM<

Not much help to you I am afraid, but I have the 2005 disc and although the M6 Toll is marked, "Nagging Nora" ignores it completely and tries to take me through Walsall or some such ghastly place (sorry to residents of that fair borough )

Also it failed to recognise the A1(M) near Hitchin and told me ..." at the roundabout, take the second exit" whilst I was in a tunnel!!!

Upshot is the 2005 disc ain't exactly state of art!! Tell me, does your 2003 disc show the M6???

At the price it might be worth getting a TomTom and using the Saab satnav screen as a flat place to put the fixing sucker!! For all the criticism of the TeleAtlas supplied mapping on TomTom, it has has the M6 Toll on it since the upgrade last winter!

    Re: Sat Nav DVD

I posted this across on Saab Central:

Got my 9-3SS today with the 'Business Pack'

The Sat Nav DVD says "Saab Navigation System Western Europe 2006"

    Saab Part No 12 767 992
    DVD Part No. T1000-9734

Interestingly it says "Up to 15% of the road network changes each year, so complete the registration card enclosed to receive your update disc."

I'm not sure what card this is, there is a change of address form inside the user guide.

I went to the Navteq site and of course found no mention of SAAB on there.

I got a 2005 disk with my car last December. It too had a Navteq registration card in the box which I sent off. A few weeks later I got an email... "NAVTEQ is
the database supplier for many different navigation systems on the market.
At this moment we do not supply products for Saab."

Since the 2006 disk is out now, I guess I'll have to contact the dealer to find out how I get one.

Was it actually a card like a postcard or is it something you tear out of the back of the book (if you can remember).

From my discussions on Saabcentral a figure of 350 euros was quoted, which probably means £350 the way we get ripped in the UK.

I was surprised that it knew about a new roundabout near where I work, especially as it was only finished 6 months ago!

I have owned a TomTom GO for about 18 months or so, and just sent off for the new upgrade (which they claim they are not selling after 01/11/05)

In my time with the TomTom I always found the maps very good and only once did it try to send me down a pedestrianised street. However when I asked my client that I visited she said that the street had only been finished two weeks before! so I can kind of forgive that.

The things I miss having the Nav built in now are:

    1) Being able to program an address into the box at night ready for the next day (yes I know I could sit in the car, but in front of the telly is much better)

    2) Being able to see the route, the Tom Tom shows turn by turn, so you can see which roads you will be travelling on and even play a little 'movie' of the journey

    3) Postcodes. By far the easiest way to get the address in quick

Other than that I am pretty chuffed with the 'Business Pack', I love the way the Sat Nav stops talking when you are on the phone, and the phone doesn't ring if your braking and indicating.

Thanks for the info. I was fuming today when the SatNav took me into the London Congestion Zone at Hammersmith, when I could have easily taken a different route! I have now bought a RoadAngel Compact.

TMC is a very useful feature though.

London Congestion Zone doesn't start until you get past Hyde Park!! Nowhere near Hammersmith (yet!).

    Map of Zone

Did you just see the advance warning signs?

I think it was a tear-out from the back of the book if I remember correctly. The dealer handed me the case and told me to send off the registration card, and that was the closest thing to a registration card in there.

Although most of the time the maps are accurate and the routes make sense, I always worry when I hear "hard left turn" cos it usually means it's gonna try and send me somewhere stupid, like leaving the M6 Toll road via the entry ramp

Has anyone bought the new dvd data disc? I wondered how much the dealers were charging for it. I have the the 2004 disc and wonder how out of date it is.
