Hi
I have a 2001 5 door 93 petrol which I enjoy driving , I have found a 1999 3 door with 120,000 kays and reported to be in excelent condition which I am interested in.
What I would like to know is what is the difference between the 2 models , do they drive the same.
According to the redbook site the early 93 is not intercooled and the maximum torque is developed at 3500 rpm, where as the 2001 developes max torque is at 1800 , what I enjoy most about my 2001 93 is the torque at low revs, no need to rev is hard , it just pulls at low revs, where as the 1999 sounds like it needs to be reved hard.

Any coments please

oldjocktom,

You don't say which model either of the cars are ! Are they both N/A, LPT or FPT. These will make a significant difference to the torque characteristics of the engine. My guess is that your 2001 model is a turbo ( 2.0 or 2.3 litre ) and the '99 is a 2.0 N/A

My question would be: why would you want to swap to an older car ?

Hi paul
I want to join the saab family, the 2001 belongs to my wife and I enjoy driving it,when I can get the keys off her.
My car is due for replacement and another 93 may stop arguments
Both cars are S models 2 litre turbos.
I test drove a 1999 2 litre turbo convertable S and was dissapointed with the way it went, our 2001 93 ran rings around it, mind you I did not push it hard, which makes me think the earlyer models are different

oldjocktom,

There shouldn't be such a big difference between the years. Mrs P @ K drives a 2002 2 litre LPT Cabrio and I've just bought a 1999 2 litre SE Cabrio. I find exactly the opposite, the '99 is faster. Might have been chipped sometime in its history.

First thing I'd check was whether the rod has fallen of the wastegate. Drops the standard LPT 150 bhp down to about 130 bhp. Still runs very smoothly but just doesn't have the 'ooomph'
