Just noticed that I now have a plain silver BB, how can this be? i imagine its like a coloured transfer that sits on top of the moulded base?

is it just old age (MY98)or could it be something more sinister? eek.gif and I bet the dealers want a small fortune for a new one.

It is glued or screwed?

Probably started as a stone chip and has gradually lost the rest of the colour. Mine is doing this - totally silver in the middle where the griffin used to be - but blue remains for the moment.

New bonnet badge from a dealer is £10-£11, IIRC

There will be two lugs on the back, each of which fits into a nylon bush which goes into a corresponding hole in the bonnet.

On more recent model years they appear to be held in place with an adhesive pad.

Hello Maxter,

Just replaced bonnet badge on my '98 9-5.

My son power washed blue transfer off the silver base. Last time I accept offer of power washer from neighbour Not his or sons fault though......just getting old...

My badge was old type with SAAB onto the top half and SCANIA on lower half with intermeshing rings. These are now difficult to get hold off. Elkparts only stock the Griffin SAAB type. My local Saab dealer got hold of one through favours network.

Cost about £12 if I remember. Check the bulletin board for how to remove old badge. It certainly works....

Mine was stuck with adhesive and uses three pins to locate and align.

Read a post about using dental floss to help cut through adhesive before trying to pry off carefully using a thin blade screw driver.

BE CAREFULL as one slip and you can get a nice stripe up the bonnet NOPE!!!! fortunately didn't happen to me.

My loacl dealer is Concept Saab in Cardiff, ask for Paul if yours is a 9-5 and have difficulties sourcing replacement.

Good Luck

just replaced mine.probably caused by pressure washing the car which removes the lacquer from under the BB. its the one with the SAAB/SCANIA on it. cost £11.37 from a main dealer. they had loads in stock. the newer ones with just SAAB on them wont fit the NG900'S as the two locating dowels on the badge are a different distance from the ones one the bonnet. as for removing the old one, i used a piece of card between the bonnet and a screw driver and gently levered the old one out and the replacement one just pops straight in. hope it lasts this time thumbsup.gif

Hey Guys,
Check out e-bay there are always Saab Badges for sale there.
Cheers Jim.

ebay is a great source of saab stuff but getting the right bonnet badge can be difficult.

Problem with the 9-5 is the size....its quite big in diameter and difficult to get....have tried ebay, asked sellers lots of questions but never the right diameter.

Found someone who sells then regularly off ebay.com with reasonable shipping from US to UK but start price has crept up to the same as UK dealer eek.gif

Thats why I decided to buy from dealer rolleyes.gif

The top of the badge is covered by a thin plastic film. This keeps the paint on the badge from fading away. If this plastic film comes off (power wash etc) the paint comes off, and your nice badge is now just a shiny silver disc .

I have both a Saab-Scania and Saab bonnet badges on the desk in front of me, right now, and they have the following markings on the back:

Saab-Scania Bonnet Emblem says:

FL20621
4522884 ABS

Saab Bonnet Emblem says:

5289871
FL22861
1
FL20621
4522884 ABS

I can confirm that for the GM900 and the classic 9-3 the spacing of the lugs on the bottom of the badges are exactly the same thumbsup.gif (The badge for the classic 900 may have the lugs placed farther apart, though.

Chenks, did you mean the 9-3 Sport Saloon, or the 9-3

Perhaps some clarification.

I was talking about the bonnet badges for the Saab GM900 M94-97 and the 9-3 M98-02

There are two types of badges, here. One says Saab-Scania with Griffin and the other, introduced in August 2000 is the new Saab logo with just the word "Saab" and the Griffin.

I have set this out above above with the appropriate part numbers. thumbsup.gif

If you are talking about the bonnet badge from the new 9-3 Sport Saloon M03- then this does not fit. Indeed, nor will the bonnet badge from the 9-5 fit.

[edit] Chenks - if you can quote the part number for the bonnet badge then that would help. Where did you get it? Can the vendor swap it for the correct badge?
Julian
The above quoted part numbers are correct - just done the 'SAAB Scania' to 'SAAB' swap myself and the badges are interchangeable.

Doesn't the NG900 have a smaller bonnet badge than 9-3's?
Or am I imagining things

/john, i tried to make my NG900's fromt end badge the same as the newer SAAB only with the griffen on it and i have experienced a problem to the fact that it looks like it wont fit. is there a mod that ensures that the owners of the pre SAAB only badge can upgrade our bonnet badges? cheers thumbsup.gif i purchased my old saab/scania with the griffen from main dealership for £11.37 the parts storeman offered me the new look saab only one to offer up to my bonnet and the lugs? are different from mine, thanks again for all your help. thumbsup.gif

Chenks, next time your are talking to your parts chap at the dealers, advise him that you require this part:

Article : Bonnet Emblem
PartNo : 5289871
Usage : "SAAB"
Current Dealer price: £12.49 incl vat

This is the correct badge to replace the Saab-Scania badge. After you posted on this subject last week I went outside and changed my Saab-Scania badge for the new style "Saab" badge. This same badge fits your bonnet.

For some reason, Saab chose to put a larger badge on the 9-5 bonnet and I think the one on the 9-3SS is different also. The badges for the 9000 and the classic 900 are likely to be the same but the lugs are spaced differently, IIRC.

It makes you wonder why they just didn't use the same badge for all of the bonnets rolleyes.gif

Anyway, the part number above is the one that should do the trick. Good luck thumbsup.gif

Excellent Pleased you got there in the end. It was your post that inspired me to put the new emblem on my bonnet last weekend thumbsup.gif (I've had it knocking around for almost a year before using it rolleyes.gif )

Anyone know the part number for the 9-5 bonnet badge (old style)?

Thanks.
chenks
/john, i was more than pleased today with the new bonnet badge. asked the guys at the main dealer why the old guy had given inacurate info about the availavbility/compatability of the 93 SAAB with griffen badge rather than the dated SAAB/SCANIA with griffen NG900...their answer?.....they didnt realise that they would fit!!!! jesus!! these guys carry out servicing on most SAAB's....take it thier not intersested in the " more than four years old " models eh?

oh yeah.... they said my car looked like a 93 cos its got the saab DOUBLE THREE spoke 17" alloys and that they didnt realise that 17" alloys fitted a 900!!!!

made me chuffed!!!! the badge looks great /john. thanks for looking into the bonnet badge part numbers etc. thumbsup.gif

Perhaps I should 'upgrade' to the newer badging for the sake of clarity. The registration documents for my car list it as:

Make: SAAB
Model: SCANIO (sic)
Derivative: Aero 900 S
Body style: Convertible
