Howdie all. I just wondered if there was a basic glosarry of terms available. Reason I ask is that I am a relative novice at car mechanics, and completely new to saabs (I have had my 9000 aero for 6 months), but I find myself asking lots of very basic questions. Searches of the saabscene forums results in countless hits, but usually casual references to the subject I'm seeking as they are common and there meaning is taken for granted. What I need is glossary of basic terms so that I don't have to keep asking relative experts such trivial questions. Does one exist?

By the way, I'm currently tryinng to find a definition of base boost. I find lost of links to 'how to do it' pages, but couldn't find one that said what it is. I may just be getting confused as after seeing in one site that it should be set to about 0.45 bar on my car (at 3000rpm as far as I could see), I then see a chart of boost against revs of an aero that showed it at about 1 bar at these revs????

Thanks loads for any help

Hi Kevster

Funny you should ask. A few members of the Saabscene team has been working on precisely this over the last couple of weeks. I think it is nearing completion and we'll post a link to it, here, for you. thumbsup.gif

/John :

In the Trionic section - didn't the Turbo NG900s also have Trionic 5?

Also AIC needs a carriage return after it!

Looks excellent! Perhaps needs turning into a full FAQ with further details on specs of models and full details of SID/AS??

Compile a list of mistakes or queries and we'll correct them.

I contributed to the glossary, but it was a joint effort - the lions share of work was done by others. I am sure they put a deliberate error in judst to see who is paying attention

Kevster - I'm still learning the language too, but base boost on an Aero LPT (Light Pressure Turbo) C (Classic)900 is 0.45 bar. On a Full Pressure Turbo Aero I believe it is 1 bar. So that could explain the difference. Just don't ask me what base boost actually means

Hi Jezzadee
Mine is a 9000 aero so the values are a bit different I think. Part of my confusion may be that I don't know if the value used in setting the base boost are the same as 'actual' boost pressure, i.e. is the point at which the base boost pressure is taken from anything to do with the actual boost pressure. On the other hand, I could simply be reading the instructions on how to set the base boost completely wrong.

I think I'll go and post it as a specific question in the 9000 forum. My question ended up here as a kind of example of the sort of terminology that I didn't understand.

BTW, great glossary thumbsup.gif . I can now decipher some of the techno code

Cheers

Errors that I noticed:

Viggen was produced from 1999-2002 not 2001. I oughtta know as I'm driving a MY 2002 Viggen.

Also, the B212 is a 2.1L DOHC engine not SOHC. Which I also should know as I drive that too. lol

Cheers and good job nevertheless! thumbsup.gif

Yes, the B212 is 16v and sold only during one year in Germany ('91) but not so rare in the US. In Switzerland the engine gives 140 PS and here due to insurance rules in those days only 136.
