Bit of story but I will keep it brief.
2001 9-3 lpt convertible.
I am lucky enough to have my Saab in Malta at present after driving it over 7 weeks ago. I returned home and left the car in a garage and it hasnt been used at all for the past 7 weeks.
I arrived back in Malta today and first thing I did was go and check on the car. Opening the garage I was slightly shocked to see that it had a thin film of white furry fungus like stuff growing on the roof and all the plastic and rubber trim, it was easy to clean off. I put this down to the humid environment and will make better arrangements next time.
I thought it might be a good idea to unplug the DI pack and crank it for 10 seconds or so to pump a little oil around the engine as it had been sat for a while ( also found the furry fungus on the rubber pipes of the engine).
Checked oil etc and re-plugged DI pack. Car fired up after a few cranks so took it out for a drive to loosen it up. After it had got warm I took it for a blast to get rid of the cobwebs etc, I then went and put some fresh fuel in and continued my blast. This is when I noticed the engine management light had come on. It isnt flashing just permanently on, I slowed down to see if I could hear anything but nothing and absolutely no loss in performance at all.
Needless to say I am a little worried as handbook says to drive straight to a Saab dealer.
Before driving over I had it de-sludged, new pcv kit, new plugs, fully synth etc etc.
I am hoping its nothing or the fact its very hot and humid here or anything other than a disaster really.
Any ideas as to what to check would be very welcome.
Ok story isnt as brief as I hoped but didnt want to miss anything out.
Thanks

You really need to get the code/s read to find out what has caused the light to illuminate My EML popped up too last week ...... ......I too had no loss of performance ( I was doin bout 90 down the south side of Shap Summit on the M6)
Checked the codes when i got home & it had thrown a P0171 code ...."Engine running lean"
Which I have learnt (From these guys here) is an all too common problem... Following their instructions I checked the Exhaust monifold & managed to get a "Few Good" turns on the bolts ect .....
But yer No 1 thing is to get yer code/s read ASAP

Ok got the codes read this morning.
Codes are
1310
1110
and one other that refers to the roof I believe as roof sticks on occasion when opening B2021.
The guy cleared the codes and the engine light has stayed off but would like to know what they are so I can at least address the issue.
Many thanks

Code P1310 - DI Cassette is not powered in bank 1. the wiring harness connector has come adrift or there is a short in the wiring.
Code P1110 is for Low speed radiator fan relay shortAnd AMAZINGLY I dug this out of a Russian Saab site
Code B2021 DOME LAMP OUTPUT RETURN CIRCUIT FAILURE",

Agreed with P1310- this is a DI related problem, probably a bad contact caused by the damp conditions.
However according to WIS P1110 indicates a problem with teh operation of the dump valve. This may be caused by the solenoid, tubing or DV itself being faulty.
B2021 is indicative of a problem in the bow 5 intermediate microswitch.

Thanks for the replies guys.
If I take each issue separately.
The DI problem could I have caused this by disconnecting the DI pack and cranking the engine over, as I did this to get some oil around the engine as it had stood for a while.
The second issue after searching the net more people say it is to do with the dump valve, vac hoses etc, so is it ok to drive the car for a few days until I can get chance to look at it.
The roof issue B2021 (the guy at garage said it was roof related but not specific). Where is the switch on the 5 th bow, a real lamen explanation would be great as I have only ever found one microswitch in the past when trying blindly to solve this problem.
Thanks again for the replies.

Ok I had a look under the bonnet today and found a pipe disconnected.
Follow the link and I have highlighted with a red arrow the pipe that was off. I have re-connected it but I guess I have to get the codes reset in order to turn the management light off.
Please could someone let me know if this pipe would have caused the code and management light I have.
I really hope so as was dreading having to look for splits etc in the pipe or having to replace dump valve.

Can't seem to get the link to work but odds are that if it is a 6mm dia vac hose that comes from around the throttle body or follows through to the dump valve, then yes, that is the cause. Disconnecting the battery for a short while should clear the fault light.

It is a 6mm vac pipe. I have uploaded another photo to see if you can get this one to work.
http://www.photobox.co.uk/my/photo/full?photo_id=443996974As you face the car at the back right hand corner of the engine bay there is a type of valve looking thing with 3 of the vac pipes attached, 1 goes to the dump valve, 1 goes to the manifold and another underneath the plastic oil filler cover thing.
Thanks

Photo still not working- I suspect it is because you are pasting the URL of the web page with the image on when you are logged in to your account as opposed to right clicking on the image and copying it's properties

However the device you describe is the solenoid valve and if any of the hoses from that are disconnected you would get the P1110 code.

Thanks for the reply. Seems like that was the cause then. Pipes are a bit rotten so will replace them tomorrow.
Disconnected battery and light on dash has gone as well so its all good.
I will have one last try with the photo just to see if I am capable of doing it.

Thanks again
