Most people are prepared to pay a bit a bit extra when buying a used SAAB if the car comes with a service book full of stamps. Make sure you aren't getting something like this:

[eBay link removed]

Great, a service book full of stamps - all you have to do is fill in the dates and mileages!

To quote the seller "there are many reasons why someone might need a replacement service book".

Crikey. Shouldn't someone report that?

Thats why unless the stamps can be backed up with either the invoices or a call to the dealer, the book on its own is useless in my book, pardon the pun

Seems to be a lot of dishonest people out there! Most Saab dealers will provide a print out of the service history of a vehicle - if you ask nicely. I was told that Volvo have it all on a central computer data base, so you do not even have to ask the servicing dealer. Not sure about Saab.

My mazda does not have a service book, everything is kept electronically by Mazda UK, seems to be the way to go.

Yep, Saab's the same.

It gets worse. I've emailed him to ask which dealer, and are they still operating. He's replied, saying he can make up a stamp for any dealer I want....

That's going to Ebay too.

Sent in a report also.

Police in that area also need informing!

Do you mean you have reported woofbooxer - on reading his post that started this thread, seems to be very suspicious that it's his first, just to bring our attention to it.....hopefully the mods will pick it up.

Well spotted Mike

Hopefully eBay will also sort it out.

Can't believe it really and there will be loads of decent people out there taken in.

Just goes to show it is always worth taking to the main dealers about a car before you buy as most have full records throught the system.

I saw this but as the OP and the eBay seller are from different locaitons, decided to give it the benefit of the doubt, and see what the forum thought before taking any action.

Offering a service to supply duplicate service books may be legit as long as they are backed up with a check against main delaer records by the seller of the service.

Not true, many dealers don't keep SAAB UK informed and only keep their own records, to make matters worse when these dealers stop doing SAAB then the records can and will disappear. The other week I was suspicious of the history of a particular car and spoke to SAAB about it and they had *no* record of any work ever being done on the car under that registration number. Anyhow, more digging revealed that it does indeed has a SAAB history but under a different reg no. as it was supplied with a private plate but as the system wasn't joined up it doesn't show you by linking it with the vin.

I've also known private plates give problems with ordering keys as it seems that if a plate change happens then the key record is held on numberplate and not vin so if SAAB never know about a plate change you can end up with the wrong key number.

Anyhow, I've also known that vin numbers can get recorded incorrectly on the V5 too, I've sold more than a few SAAB's that have a vin no. start y53 instead of ys3 and some have a B2041 engine instead of a B204i for example.

Just to reassure you all that I am nothing to do with whoever was selling these rather suspicious service books on Ebay. I just spotted it and thought I let would people on here know about it. I'm glad it was reported to Ebay which is what I should have done if I had thought of it.

Once again, I'm as honest as the day is long (guvnor).
