hi there guys a question having seen a saab sonnet on the saab gb site i am very interested has anybody ever seen 1 on the road i never miss a saab and i cannot remmeber ever seeing 1 are they that rare ?
MBeest
Actually, yes - but once and once only. It was in about May 2002 in Macclesfield, and it was an orange V4 (Sonnet III, I think?).

That's the only one I've seen on the road, but the SAAB dealership in Leicester (in 1989) had Pat Moss Carlsson's yellow Sonnet on display for a few weeks.

I've never seen any others though.

MB.

Graham Cowland has his on display at Trent Saab/TSL, that's orange and it's a Sonett III so it's likely to be a V4 as well. I did see an orange Sonett III being driven around Sale a couple of years ago.

.. oh, and a blue Sonett III at last years SEC AGM.

There are four variations of Sonett (and as many variations in spelling the name rolleyes.gif )

Saab 94 - aka Saab Sonett Super Sport - only six made, one lost, later found and restored and, more recently, two replicas have been made.

Saab Sonett II - two stroke-powered ugly-mobile designed by a couple of Bjorns at ASJ, IIRC? Was produced in preference to Sixten Sason's Catherina - another ugly-mobile that had early design cues of the later Saab 99.

Saab Sonett V4 - V4 powered Sonett II shape ugly-mobile - you can tell the different as there is a bulge in the Sonett bonnet to accommodate the V4 motor.

Saab Sonett III - produced from around 1967-74 and shipped predominantly to the USA - never officially imported to UK. Apart from the Saab 94 - this is the best-looking ugly-mobile (is that an oxymoron?) of the Sonetts

ment to add are the rumours true that saab are thinking of bring out another sonnett like car ?

Well, if they did, they could do worse then take a Vauxhall VX200/Opel Speedster turbo, rejig the suspension, and sort out a HOT option engine for it.

What GM should have done in the first place, badge it as a Saab, instead of a Vauxhall/Opel, when it is a GM (read Saab in Turbo form, Opel/Vauxhall in NA) engined Elise anyway.

Which brand will catch the sporty drivers? Vauxhall (the staple uk brank of new drivers, reps, and family men with the exception of the LC), Opel, that haven't really had a sporting image since the Manta/Monza days, or Saab that have consistently produced sporty, individual cars through out it's history.

Which of the two would you choose to market a mid engined fast sporty 2 seater as?

Here you've got some nice examples of the various sonnets, except the last one, the sonnet III.

Doktorevil - that one is not a Sonett. That is Sixten Sason's Caterina prototype for the Sonett II. The while white one behind it, is the MFI13, the one behind that is a Saab 94, aka Saab Sonett Super Sport, (or incorrectly: Sonett I)

C'mon, Mark. Even I can leave a VX220 behind. I have done on the A23

Hmm, an obvious case of me not reading the desciptions properly ...

I was really sure it were sonnets...Oh well than I have to go back again to make sure..
