A Saab on TV with some actor chap who also drove a GM900 in the series.

SteveN
Did they give him that one to make up for the fact they destroyed his C900 in Cold Feet?
nutcase

Don't worry, you can put it to bed after a real Saab, ie. mine, has been on the telly in a couple of months...

Is that my coat..?

What about the Direct Line(?) advert. Chap in a VW Beetle picks up wife/girlfriend from station. She comments on how clean the car is... etc.

In the background is a 99 turbo(?)

Presumably everyone saw the CS(E) in State of Play a couple of days ago? About twenty minutes into the episode when the cops were being delayed by Bill Nighy. Camera followed the car through the window so presumably this is important (I'm not very good at following these things). Better still, almost, a couple of moments before that there was the front end of a white 9k classic just like my old one (except that it had those hubcaps you only see on cars bought s/h).

Saw a silver 9-5 saloon in The Bill recently, was parked by the side of the road with the bonnet up and the criminal staring at the engine bay.

Probably was wondering what a PCV was.. and why he needed to change it

Nice black 9000 in the BBC's drama last night (Sunday) - State of Play - one of the reporter's car.
Stunut1
Watching the film 'Bandits' on Sky the other night - Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thornton in a very bright red 9-5 Aero estate: they rob a bank and ditch the 9-5 for a PT Cruiser (some people just have no taste)..
Oles
I guess it must have been a GM sponsored movie then!!

Well, I went to the cinema last night and saw the Nokia advert on the big screen and I am pretty sure that the car that is in it is a Saab 92.

BTW - I went to see The Matrix Reloaded and have to admit to looking out for Saabs during the entire 20min car chase
nutcase
There was a car chase? Musta fallen asleep by that point

Another C900 piled in an accident in Casualty on Saturday night - storyline - driving like a maniac, pulls out to overtake an ambulance, swerves and then piles into a parked car ia petrol station. - seems TV producers have something against this classic model at present.

Or maybe that there are so few cars of that age (ie cheap) that are still driveable? A credit to Saab build quality!
Gordy
I'm guessing that they choose Saabs as they are so cheap but still exude quality. It will help develop the character of the driver as the viewer will have a preconception of a 'typical' Saab driver. Equally, the car will not automatically be viewed as accident fodder helping to keep the viewer engaged in the storyline.

Yes, he was a Ganster. escaping from court, and stealing the car. Didn't work out how to start it, but it was an Auto, and wouldn't start in gear, so the plot said. He told the copper who stopped to see if he was OK, he was driving his GF's car, because she was in hospital, and that is where he was going, because she was going to give birth. Got himself a police Escort.

Radio Times has a pic of the characters standing next to the motor.

Old brown Saab 99 in a German police serie. Last Sunday crashed into 2 Fords at high speed. eek.gif eek.gif

Watched Grosse Pointe Blank the other night, one of my all-time favourites. Features a GM900 convertible in which John Cusack and Minnie Driver head off into the sunset at the end.

And there's a C900 convertible in High Fidelity, IIRC. Does this point toward John Cusack having a thing about Saabs?
Jane K
Don't forget Michael Winner bumping a black convertible in the Esure ad. Naf ad but lovely car.

Watched Ultimate Force tonight and saw two. A black 3 dr with whaletail and a blue carlsson lookalike (though not a saab shade of blue?)

Guess what? They didn't write either of them off this time
saab93s
i think i saw a ruby 900 special @ the end in the car park any body tape it ?
aeropilot
Ref: Ultimate Force and now really dropping into anorak mode....and for any the 'old' bikers out there.....
The black C900 with the whaletail had the 8 spoke ronals (minilite) on and was seen to 'expire' amist a cloud of hissing steam under the famous Stonebridge arches on the, now bypassed, section of the North Circular Road, just past the infamous ACE Cafe......
MeatballTurbo
Hate to tell you this, but the "max Power" types hold regular car meets at Ace now, so the bikers might end up getting squeezed out by Novas and Saxo's driving like Arses.

Saabs on film?

I have tried to find the following on the internet but have not succeeded.

There is a film called 'Shopping' and it was made in '93 and starred Jude Law and Sean Pertwee.

It shows Sean Pertwee jumping into the back of a black 900 turbo convertible (full of criminals) which is parked next to a 9000 carlsson hatcback (also full of criminals). They then proceed to dragrace each other down a street. The carlsson kicks it's a*se of course. Oh and I might ad that they are off to turn over a police station with baseball bats!?! eek.gif

Meatball,
As an ACE regular, as far as know, there was a 'Max Power - Saxo/Nova' type meet at the ACE some time ago, but their behavior was somewhat OTT, and the management told them they wouldn't be welcome back again. I think this is still the case, although, I have seen the odd Saxo hanging around on occasions.....

has any body seen the mean machine they kill a 95 and 93 convertable

Clint Eastwood film tonight - Sudden Impact. Clint chasing bad guy on foot. BG is almost hit by Sonnett (111?)
happypig
There used to be a programme called The Paradise Club, starring Leslie Grantham and Don Henderson as a gangland villain and his brother, a priest.
The villain drove a black 900.

I see Oz (Jimmy Nail's character) in the re-run of the new Auf Wiedersen pet series drives a classic 900.

In coronation street, Dev (owner of the corner shop) drives a saab convertible; not sure which one though.

saw 'Good Morning Vietnam' on TV last night. I think I saw a shot of the off side of a black two stroke shot from the rear.

Thats good to know. I read the mag, and I know a couple of "trendy" car modifiers who are pretty cool about all cars getting tuned and modded, but a lot of them are real arses who don't know anything about a car that was made before they passed their tests. And in some cases, before they were born.

Saw "Transporter" on DVD last night. French cop drove an old, rusty pale blue classic 900. Still went like stink but sadly not well cared for.
StanleyB
Not quite SAAB on TV, but I just got back from watching Arnie in T3. Couldn't help noticing him driving in the hearst and clipping a eek.gif SAAB9000! From all the cars that got hit in the movie, only the SAAB seems to have survived Arnie's driving .
tuckshopted
There was a nice c900 on bbc1 this evening.. drama called spooks i think.
tandino TD04 T16S
Tuckshopted - is that your nice black C900 Carly in your avatar?? - if so ill have to see it in the flesh the next time im up visisting my Mother who lives in Poole-in-Wharfedale between Leeds and Harrogate - looks like a lovely example

tuckshopted
Hmmm wish it was my Carly
No you're right though I've got a GM900 eek.gif
It's not so bad but C900s do have more character - sometimes wish i kept my old one or got a newer T16S/Carly rolleyes.gif
LocoSaab
Saw the one in Spooks and last night the front of a GM 900 but can't remember what programme - Holby rolleyes.gif I think.

Its a habit with me too to look out for Saabs on the tele/movies.

Latest ones seen:

The convertible in 'Swordfish' which our hero uses to meet his little daughter is a black 9-3 convertible.

'Sudden Impact' on tele a few days back. The scene where everyone leaves city because of fear of a meteor (or whatever they call it) and the teenage romeo is searching for his girlfriend's car... I think I saw a white 9K.

esure insurance company ad. The first car old man uses to hit another car is a black 9-3. I was telling the wife that for that sort of a hit, you don't need the insurance paying for the Saab. The car which got hit needed to be paid!

That old man is a one time famous film producer called Michael Winner. He used to direct films such as the Death Wish series, starring a one time famous actor called Charles Bronson (who was married to Jill Ireland, who was once the wife of David MacCallum, who played Illya Kuryakin in THe Man from UNCLE, etc. etc.) .

Oh by the way, Michael Winner is now reputed to be a food critic eek.gif ...

Enough trivia for today rolleyes.gif I am showing my age...

Not sure about this... Watched Terminator 3 yesterday and in the scene where the trio (Arnie, John Connor and Katherine Brewster) escape with a funeral car, the first car that they smash was a red coloured car and it seemed asthough it was the front of an oldish Saab (not sure what model) but am pretty sure it looked Saab-ish!

Anyone seen that? Am I right or am I just too obsessed with Saabs that I find every other thing around me is a Saab fawlty.gif (so the wife says )?

Neel.

Seinfeld has many Saab stories...BBO takes place in Jerry's saab, Doing "the move" revolves around jerry and his Saab mechanic, and the best one is Jerry buying a new saab from "Putty"..he wants the black one, but because elain and putty broke up the only one left was an ugly yellow one...and he was going to charge him up the ass for "extra's"...the best part is watching Kramer driging it on "E"
