Jezzadee 02-11-2005, 12:17 PM It's worth mentioning to any East Anglians (or anyone else for that matter) who wanted to do Emerald that the Rolling Road at this place certainly appears to be very professionally run. There were a crowd from Pistonheads there last time with some impressive cars as well.

had some very good comments about the old T8 by some Scoody-do/frod Cosworth RS500 owners/drivers like..................
those Saab turbos are "FOOKING FAST" & they are very sleeper/stealth like motors http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif
so feel free to add your names to the list even if you don't go on the rollers, just turn up for a chat & BBQ

gassy 03-06-2005, 11:07 AM If the weather is nice (no salt on roads) and if Mrs Gassy lets me ('cos I'll have been in furrin places for a few days previously) I'd like to try and put Woody (C900 'vert) on the rollers. But since there's a lot of "ifs" there, I'll not officially put my name down.
Bussman 03-06-2005, 11:56 AM let us know a bit nearer the time then put your name down.. be nice to her in doors that always works
be nice to see a vert there too
Paul
Bussman 03-08-2005, 02:26 PM just a update boys,
the power run price is £35 this is for 2 power runs, also there will be 2 ABBOTT RACING TECHINCIANS on site all day to help us out with any problems
they are here to help us so use them
they will have lap tops etc etc
below is a list of things that will happen during the day this will answer most question you have..
Rolling Road day this Saturday. Thought I would just post to give you some information regarding the day that I hope you will find useful.
Preparation:
1. Ensure you have a good supply of fuel in the tank. A couple of power runs will not use much but as a rule of thumb, half a tank would be a good minimum.
2. Ensure you check engine oil and water levels and top-up as necessary.
3. Where possible check gearbox and diff oils and check for leaks.
4. Tyre pressures are very important for accurate readings so ensure these are set as you would normally run them or as specified by the manufactuer.
5. Ensure you have towing eyes, etc, to allow us to strap the car down using the tow points wherever possible.
6. Ensure wheel nuts are tight and secure and that none are missing.
This about covers it for preparation, we do however have a pre-check on the vehicle before it is run to ensure we are happy. We do reserve the right not to run a car we feel is unsuitable but this has not happened yet.
The day:
We are starting about 9.00 in the morning, and we will be running a first come, first served system. One note of caution, the main entrance into the yard has a slight hump, if you usually ground the car on speed bumps, etc, ensure you approach at an angle to avoid this.
On arrival the owner of the vehicle will be asked to complete a Disclaimer before your vehicle is run. On completion you will be given a number for your run and you and your guests will be issued with Passes to allow you to wonder the workshop. On the day, anybody without a pass will not be allowed in the workshop - always cautious with people walking around other peoples cars!
Cheap refreshments will be available on the day and if demand dictates we will fire-up the BBQ!!!!
We will also hold a question and answer session at the end if needed. The cost for the Power run is £35.00 including VAT. It would help if you have the correct money available as we hold very little change on site.
The Power Run:
Once the pre-check is complete, your car will be driven onto the rollers, settled and strapped down. We will then discuss with you anything we feel relevant and take on board any comments you may have. Only two additional people will be allowed in the booth with the vehicle (usually the owner and a friend). There is, however, a large viewing window for others to spectate.
Each power run will then consist of the following:
1. One gearing run to allow the rollers and software to ascertain loss factors at the wheels.
2. Two power runs will then be made taking the vehicle initially to the redline and then backed off if the power curve dictates for the second run.
You will then receive a graph detailing the following:
1. Brake Horsepower at the Flywheel
2. Torque at the Flywheel
3. Drag co-efficient - allowing you to calculate loss through the drivetrain and show BHP at the wheels
4. Air/Fuel Ratio curve throughout the run.
The main fan used simulates 75mph winds into the front of the vehicle. In addition we have upto six fresh air points that allow us to blow air onto different areas of the car (rear engined intercoolers, etc). The exhaust gasses are then vented by another fan at the rear of the vehicle.
On completion the vehicle is allowed to idle and cool and is then removed from the rollers, ready for the next one. At this point you will be shown your graph and you may ask questions if you have any. Then you can pay!!!!!
I hope this is of use to you all. Sorry it so long winded but I thought it relevant as most people run their rollers in different ways with regard to process, etc.
If at all possible could all who are attending sign-up so I can get a rough idea of numbers for the day. Of course, people can turn-up on the day and we will try to fit you in. The Rollers are NOT open to anybody else on Saturday - only SAABS.
I will not promote the business on here as that is not the way we work (plus I will get in trouble) but we will, of course, be on hand during the day if you have queries on anything else.
We are very much looking forward to Saturday and hope you are too. Will keep an eye on the weather and will be in touch during the week should anything change.
Many thanks to Paul for his help on this.
Regards
Neil @ LPS
Cheers Paul
nutcase 03-08-2005, 04:00 PM Ooh, laptops eh, are they useful as wheel chocks
Not entirely sure what abbott could advise me, although hopefully it's the two who checked my geometry so they can see it inaction (hopefully with a space between the two words )
1989agoodvintage 03-09-2005, 03:27 AM On arrival the owner of the vehicle will be asked to complete a Disclaimer before your vehicle is run. On completion you will be given a number for your run and you and your guests will be issued with Passes to allow you to wonder the workshop. On the day, anybody without a pass will not be allowed in the workshop - always cautious with people walking around other peoples cars![/b]Does that mean that I won't be allowed to watch the power runs unless I partake myself?
Robert Watts12 03-09-2005, 05:13 AM HI
So what time do we need to be there ??? is it now 9 am if so ouch !!!!!!!!!!
Bussman 03-09-2005, 12:02 PM Hi Jason,
no mate if your watching no need to sign any thing just turn up & watch'n'enjoy plus you will be given a pass/badge saying your a Saab Fan & not some one off the street looking to steal a car....
Rob, the day starts at 9am but will go on all day so if you want to turn up at 10am thats fine

see you boys soon Paul
Bussman 03-12-2005, 01:08 PM Hi boys,
it was great to meet a lot of new faces today & see all the old ones too
a big thank you to all who turned up....
I trust you all enjoyed yourselfs today..
I'll post some pictures later I have just got to resize them etc(I only took 70 photos)
anyway for my results I'm very happy as the T8 gets better & better
I'll post my results from Emerald before I was running with the correct timing for the Heuschmid cam...so you can compare..
136.9bhp @5092rpm & 156.4ft lb @3277rpm
todays results were...
161.1bhp @4949rpm & 221ft lb @3100rpm
thats a 24.2bhp & 64.6ft lb increase the only problem I have now is I need a new wastegate as mine is letting boost off at 3100rpm
Paul
enjoyed self today. well done paul. impressed wiyh my lowly 145.4. torque curve v flat almost from 2000rpm. which is nice. certainly scared mg zt190 owner on the way back home he he he http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/fawlty.gif http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/fawlty.gif
Thanks Paul for organising a good day out. Nice to see a few familiar faces and a few new ones http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif Very impressed with the LPS set up and the chaps were very informative.
Now I know why the aero is'nt running as it was before. However, don't know if it's my imagination but the car always seems to drive better after it's been on the rollers The turbo seems to be kicking in quicker and it feels a little bit more http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/fawlty.gif like it was before Anyway, figure's:
277.9bhp @ 5515 rpm
331 lbs ft http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif @ 3429rpm
Lat time it was on a dyno:
295 bhp and 302 lbs ft.
So a slight decrease in bhp, which I expected but massive torque
The tester did say that he felt the car had so much more in reserve so just got to get the MAP sorted and perhaps do a proper base boost check.
Till next time......
nutcase 03-12-2005, 07:08 PM Indeed Zahid, I think your car is just begging to be released
Well happy with my own result - 173hp http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif and 218lbft. Not bad at all from an ancient B engine with a mullered turbo Pushing on significant knock though But then with no chargecooling of ANY kind, that's hardly suprising!
Nice one Paul, thanks for organising the day, and I think your T8 has more to come

Robert Watts12 03-13-2005, 04:51 AM First of all thanks to Paul for organising the day and the guys at LPS for a great day
After picking the car up at 8.20 having had stage 3 fitted over night, my 9-3 ran 256 bhp (think could do a little more) but happy, but very impressed with 275lbft torque and on the open road the car runs amazing !!!
The guys at LPS were very impressed with how smooth it was, so big thumps up to the guys at Maptun and South East SAAB for fitting all the bits.
Rob
Be prepared to surprise (or scare ) a few people with all that power mate http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif
Forgot to say, a very nice selection of cars on the day. A couple of nice 9-3s (especially liked yours John, very stealthy looking ) Shame I missed the 9-5 estate.
Also must say DaveB's Caterham looks smashing http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif
Bussman 03-13-2005, 06:23 AM Rob,Zahid nice to meet you both yesterday, both of you have top motors http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif
Paul
wrighar 03-13-2005, 07:01 AM A tidy 285bhp and 325ftlb for me, all 3 runs were within 1 or 2 bhp of that.
Andrew
Rob,Zahid nice to meet you both yesterday, both of you have top motors *
Paul *[/b]Likewise mate http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif Thanks for letting me know about the day, I really must start checking out the Events Thread
unfortunately no-one took me up on my bet, otherwise i'd be £1.20 richer http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif
NickWhite 03-13-2005, 10:14 AM Great to meet everyone yesterday - well worth the trip.
Everyone seemed pretty pleased with their results, including Zars and I, since we were both hoping the dyno would shed light on perceived problems - it did.
Nice to see what's possible with the 9-3. Both /John and Rob12's cars look fabulous.
philip hs 03-13-2005, 11:27 AM Very nice pictures, some very beautiful Saabs!
Glad you boys had fun http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif
tandino 03-13-2005, 03:03 PM Good to see some old and new faces and to see my VR6 putting out what it should do - 250bhp and with imho the best engine noise going http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif
Pete.
Everyone seemed pretty pleased with their results, including Zars and I, since we were both hoping the dyno would shed light on perceived problems - it did[/b]Yep, definately agree with you there mate. It's always nice to come off the dyno with an impressive set of figures but all the more useful when it highlights certain problems with the set up, especially when you know the car is'nt right. Would'nt it be nice to have a dyno in your back garden
imho the best engine noise going *[/b]Yes Pete, that thing was whistling away sweetly
wrighar 03-14-2005, 05:03 PM Finally scanned my RR result.
This was my 3rd run, but looking back at the data files, my 2nd run was the best with > 284.5bhp from 5142 rpm through 5450 rpm, and over 300ftlb torque from 3250rpm through 4900rpm http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/fawlty.gif
