: Put Petrol In My 2.2 Tid
splitbus 10-08-2003, 02:00 PM Guys I have accidently put petrol in my car, It has cut out and has £20 worth of petrol in tank.
I have been told that If i drain the tank then fill up with diesal it will be fine..
But how do I drain the tank, anyone know.. I have tried syphon no go..
Uncoupled tank nope....
Any ideas???
wrighar 10-08-2003, 02:10 PM Is it an electric pump??
Why not use that to do it and disconnect a exit pipe from the tank.
Andrew
splitbus 10-08-2003, 02:17 PM The pump is mechanical, I already thought of that
9-3 Tid 10-08-2003, 02:23 PM Call to your dealer , NEVER start a diesel engine with fuel , if you do that say a big hello to problems . And it is very expensive .
splitbus 10-08-2003, 02:34 PM was dealer who said they would simply empty it and then put diesal in...
surely ther is some how of emptying the tank without a visit to the dealer http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/fawlty.gif
wrighar 10-08-2003, 03:07 PM can you syphon it from the fuel line under the bonnet (or from the line coming out of the tank?)
It's pick up point must be low in the tank.
Andrew
PS (edit..) anyone remember the 'old' GM diesels of the 90's which in the handbook suggested for winter to mix up to 25% petrol with the diesel for use.
9-3 Tid 10-09-2003, 03:04 AM If the seals of the diesel pump have fuel , they dry , and you know the price of a new pump ? Ask before do something by yourself .
Be aware of the future of your engine . This is "new" diesel . If the pression is not correct , the first signs is smoke and difficult to start when cold .
NEVER use fuel on a new diesel engine .
Firefighter 10-13-2003, 03:22 PM You could disconnect the filter under the floor, next to the tank and try and get the fuel out that way or you might get access from under the rear seat, your looking at a new filter and a good flush through with diesel if your lucky, I have a friend who works for BMW and it's a common thing with the X5 4x4, it does major damage to the injector seals and the pump as diesel acts as a lubricant and the petrol washes this away and causes the seals to swell up. Hope your one of the lucky ones, and Get the stuff out of there quick.
Philip 10-16-2003, 02:58 PM It may not be as big a disaster as it appears at first.
I recently filled my Audi A6 Avant 1.9TDi with £50 worth of unleaded. it was almost empty. My excuse ? been using the bike over the weekend, been filling it with petrol. Anyway, I got 200 yds down the road, and it stopped.
Got it drained and flushed by Audi garage, and now it's fine.
Didn't need any new bits.

peter messenger 10-16-2003, 03:21 PM i filled my van with petrol, everone made a fuss, anyway drained the tank and refilled, i have covered 85000 miles since then, with no problems.

markcanderson 10-17-2003, 06:53 AM Anyways... when I was last at the dealers.. there was a new SS sitting having it's tank emptied for the same reason...
best take it to the dealer.. it's a tricky affair to get it all out. I.e. they had the thing up on the ramp, with fuel flowing out near the rear.. didn't look any further at the time... but it looks like they disconnected the fuel line.
Marcus_Griffiths 10-17-2003, 07:53 AM Please check out your injectors.
On my 9-5 3.0 TiD I had water in the tank. They ended up replacing the tank, fuel pump, fuel lines, fuel filter, sensor and injectors. The injectors were £500 each!! http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif
Give them a clean anyway just to make sure. I think my bill came to £8500 but don't worry I'm sure you won't have those problems - also I had six cylinders to deal with!

injectie 10-17-2003, 02:18 PM We had a customer who drove back to us after filling up with Petrol in his 2.2 tid 9-3 SS he almost drove a half tank of petrol before he got to our place. Car still runs think it was his luck he only put 2o liters of petrol in his tank.
On another occasion the car in case was needed so we drilled a hole in the lowest point of the tank drained the fuel. And sealed the hole using a self tapping screw lots of silicone joint and five years later the tank is still dry in that place.

Surely that car is a potential death-trap? http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif
Ford Pinto, anyone? http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif
kommando 10-18-2003, 10:16 AM Had the tank off a diesel Audi 100 to cure a leak, in the lower most corner there was plug covered in sealer for draining, found it after I hade emptied tank via filler using B&D drill running a pump.
injectie 10-18-2003, 11:25 AM The car in case wasn't a saab. And it happened before I worked there but the car still comes by. When I found the screw I asked around what is was for. One of the mechanics reconigzed the car and told me the story.
