Hi

When I bought my 9-3 Vector a couple of months ago, the DTE reading on the SID seemed accurate (on a full tank it would read about 450 miles DTE).

For some reason recently though it seems to be displaying a figure that is about 25% of what it should be - e.g. a full tank now results in it reading 120 miles.

The average fuel consumption is around 34mpg, which seems right, and the fuel gague is OK.

What could be wrong?

Glenn.

Hi! Welcome to Saabscene

Difficult to suggest anything positive, but how does it behave after filling?

Does the Distance to Empty stay low or does it recover to "normal" as you drive away?
Does it go down slowly so that a zero reading is accurate?
Does it stay at 120 until there are really 120 miles to empty?
Does it get to zero long before the tank is empty?

Can't think of any other permutations at the moment http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

You are getting a full load of fuel in? No dent in the underside of the tank? Used to be a common fault on older Vauxhalls - tank collapsed with fuel suction if the vent in the cap blocked!!

Hi

> Hi! Welcome to Saabscene

Ta very much.

As it happens I fixed the problem last night - holding down (for about 5s) the Clear button when DTE was displayed resulted in a beep and a "Trip computer reset" message, then all was back to normal - DTE was reading about 400 miles on a 90% full tank.

Out of interest - in case this happens to anyone else - the answers to your questions:

> Does the Distance to Empty stay low or does it recover to "normal" as you drive away?

No it never went above about 120 miles.

> Does it go down slowly so that a zero reading is accurate?

Yes.

> Does it stay at 120 until there are really 120 miles to empty?

No - it was always about 1/4 of what it should have been.

> Does it get to zero long before the tank is empty

Never risked it! When I had the DTE problem, the DTE displayed when the fuel light came on would be around 15 miles; I don't know exactly how much distance one gets from light on->empty, but I suspect it's more like 50 miles.

Anyway I hope this post helps if anyone else is having a similar problem. It does say in the manual how to reset the "trip computer", but makes no mention, AIR, of it affecting DTE.

I had a similar problem DTE said 0 miles yet guage registered just above quarter full.

But then again i have had nearly every fault http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

But will soon be getting a brand spanking new 04 model (if Saab GB ever get back to me with the figures)

this dte problem is well known and fairly common
as you have found re-setting the computor works ,
mine has done it a few times now... but I have had the software update that is meant to cure it..
watch this space....

watch this space.... [/b]Does the software update happen as a matter of course, presumably during a service (mine has only done 5k miles so far) or do you have to specifically request it?

I asked for it (my car is one of the earliest)
and I would guess they would work the " if it aint broke...."
so I would advise them of the problem....

What you are going to wait till 18000 miles or 2 years which ever is sooner to get it fixed http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif

And it's hardly a serious problem - when it starts to play up I can fix it by resetting the trip computer as described above and then it'll be OK for another couple of months.
