I've got the navigation system with the big screen and was wondering, if there's any possibility of watching a DVD-Film from the player used for the navigation DVD?

Or is there any other way of doing it?

By the way: I've had my 1.8 t, vector for about 2.5 months now, done 5.5 Kkm and have loved every second of it. Okay, I had to see my dealer, cos the remote suddenly didn't work but after reseting the software everything was fine. My navigation system is brillant, but some times the driver's just too stupid - hate to admit it.
Proud to be Saab rather than bmw, merc or even lexus...... my first Saab by the way (although the whole clan's been driving Saab for ages).

Thanks in advance http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/fawlty.gif

It is unlikely that your satnav system would play DVD movies really on two counts:

1) A DVD player that can replay movies has some extra bits of software for decoding the movie data and finding the appropriate sound-track - a lot of DVD films have multiple languages incorporated onto a single disc - and the annoying 'Regionalisation' locks.

2) Your dash-board end of the system needs the controls to handle the menu systems that all DVD movies have.

I thought so, but still, it was worth trying....

thanks anyway and have a nice summer. Paul

I'd guess that this unit is manufactured to act as a navigation system and as in car entertainment, with only the casing changing. All the software to do both jobs could be there but with one bit switched off. It's cheaper to manufacture that way. Try to find a hack to activate both bits of software.

It's a good point about the controls though. Does the system have remote control capability?

Worth looking in to.

The Lexus/Toyota nav systems here in the US can play DVDs... but only when the car is in park with the parking break on.

Controls are handled via the touchscreen (a DVD control pops up automatically).

So, maybe there's a chance. But where is the nav. unit in the 9-3? Can you access it to put in a DVD?

Thanks Mike R and Texas
The nav is operated by turning and pressing a knob and there are also some buttons which can be used.

The DVD-Player itsself is in the boot, so access is only possible by getting out of the car.

Think I'll have to buy a portable DVD-Player....
