: Aero delivery
Maeze 12-02-2002, 08:52 AM Hi everybody, I'm new in this forum.
At october's end I ordered a 9-3 Aero (black, Alcantara seats in blue, nav, sunroof, Hirsch wheels, soundsystem) as first time Saab ever. Does somebody knows anything about delivery time?
Cheers
markcanderson 12-02-2002, 09:10 AM hi, welcome to the forum!
Haven't you been told in which week your car will be built yet? - You're dealer is informed of this.
When I bought my 9-3 in 2001, the dealer was able to tell me when the order was placed at the factory, when the build week for my car would be, when it would be shipped, when it would pass Pre-Delivery-Inspection, , when the dealer fitted extras would be fitted and when I could pick it up.
P.S. It took around 11 weeks for my car to arrive.
kprm77 12-02-2002, 03:59 PM Welcome to the board Maeze
Believe H ordered his 9-3 Aero just after they came out in September - think the earliest he could have had his was February, though he's going for March to get the new reg plate in the UK.
I don't think they're even available in the UK until January! Not sure if it's any different in Europe....
saabman 12-02-2002, 04:34 PM Yes welcome to the board Maeze
Can't comment on the delivery time but ask your dealer as they should be able to give you a time scale.
Good luck with your purchase and I hope it brings it brings you as much pleasure as my Saabs have brought me
Maeze 12-03-2002, 06:37 AM Thanks for the warm welcome. As I'm not the most patient man, I'm really looking forward to this car.
I testdrove the Vector for a weekend and I was stunned, how good this car is in sporty driving. Never ever excpected it with a Saab.
Was at my dealer yesterday evening and they don't know anything about delivery. On the contract I got end of February, but if in Mid-February the Beauty won't be here, they will give me another Saab to drive. http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif
Cheers
Redleicester 12-03-2002, 07:19 AM My order finally got processed late October, with quite a few totally spurious options ticked off
Earliest deliver was mid-February, and you're quite right Kevin, I have deferred to 1st March to get the new 03 plate.
Now I just pootle around dreaming of 210bhp and 300W soundsystem....
Glad you liked the new car Maeze, seems like a whole lot of car for the money. I decided eventually to add the Sat-Nav later, so as to save a weenie bit on monthly payments. Lucky chap!
Oh, and welcome to the board. I'm mad. As I'm sure plently of regulars will tell you!
Maeze 12-03-2002, 08:19 AM Yesterday night they had a meeting at Hirsch Performance in St. Gallen, Switzerland about tuning up the Aero.
It will be a kit for 260hp available during 2003!!!
But even the guys at Hirsch don't know anything about delivery dates. We'll see...
Actually I come from an Alfa Romeo 156 GTA (250hp), which couldn't be delivered (waiting since March 02), so I switched to the Saab.
Wow, 210 hp and 300 Nm . . .
Cheers
grendel 12-12-2002, 10:15 AM Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I have had an Aero ordered since Sept 02 on the basis of a Jan 03 build date.
I have now been informed that the Aero release has been postponed until March 03 with an earliest build date of April (May delivery?)
I can't get a reason for this, does anyone else know about this?
To say I'm pissed off is an understatement. Now considering cancelling the order for something else.
kprm77 12-12-2002, 11:11 AM Welcome to the board Grendel
Evo said on the "Are they out there thread"
I was told that some of the new 9-3's had a software problem with the on-board computer.
In fact the 9-3 Vector that I was hoping to get this week :-} has been delayed another week due to this particular issue. *[/b]Don't know if this is holding up the Aero's I hope Saab do their best to get these cars out, they must be losing a helluva lot of custom if they're putting build dates back that much..... I just hope you get a satisfactory conclusion to this Grendel.
Maeze 12-13-2002, 01:58 AM My dealer told me that they got problems with Bluetooth. so all these cars are probabley delayed.
Maeze 12-16-2002, 03:06 AM On Friday I was told my Aero will be delivered between 25th to 28th of March 2003 !
Cheers
pepsimax 12-19-2002, 10:00 AM Hi Folks,
The problem with the delivery of the new 93 Areo is to do with the new 6 speed transmission.
I was told by my dealer ('cause I nearly ordered one) that something is failing with the unit, and this is holding delivery. No delivery dates have been established because as of Sunday there is no fix.
Sorry to bear bad news.
Regards,
Mike
grendel 12-22-2002, 09:56 AM Just keep seeing the TV adverts http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/fawlty.gif and continue to dream of when I'll get my car...
kprm77 12-22-2002, 04:25 PM Hope you stick with it Grendel, though I wouldn't blame you if you went elsewhere. I hope Saab are doing some serious brown nosing to keep you happy!
grendel 12-22-2002, 06:28 PM Problem is that I convinced myself to get an Aero in the first place and now it's difficult to think of getting something else.
I just hope they get the problems sorted out soon and keep us informed. In reality I can wait until April/May before the pressure will come as my current contract (MR2) runs out then.
No brown nosing been received as I'm buying the car through a third party finance company and do not have an awful lot of contact with the supplying dealer.
saxelsso 12-30-2002, 06:11 AM Talked to my Saab dealer today, and according to him the built-in phone (with Bluetooth) is postponed until MY04.
Deliveries (at least in Sweden) will start in the second half of March. That is of cars already ordered. If you order a new Aero today, they promise delivery in April.
Cheers,
Stefan
grendel 12-30-2002, 02:17 PM Yeah, seems like April or May delivery for cars already ordered seems like what's on the cards.
Shame really as I know Saab must be keen to get these cars out on the road.
(and we are even keener!)
grendel 01-06-2003, 04:46 PM Looks like I'm going to be getting my 200bhp+ another way...can't get a straight answer out of Saab UK for the delivery of my Aero, so I've cancelled my order and plumped for something else.
Perhaps I'll return in a few years if they've managed to get the problems and delivery sorted out by then.
Ho hum.
murphwiz 01-06-2003, 05:52 PM Sorry to hear that grendal!
I can understand your frustration!
Have you spoken to SAAB direct?
It seems a bit silly of them to allow a customer to fall through thier fingers so easily! http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
Redleicester 01-06-2003, 05:56 PM So that's two of us that have cancelled thanks in part to Saab GB bungling and faffing around.
Hmmm if they keep this up it won't just be the Hatch devotees like Basil who'll be deserting in droves....
I'm glad now I did cancel mine. As much as I love the car, my current finance expires on the 1st of March, so I'd be without a car or hiring one at ridiculous cost for about six or eight weeks at least. Not clever.
kprm77 01-07-2003, 05:57 AM So that's two of us that have cancelled thanks in part to Saab GB bungling and faffing around.[/b]Not good
grendel 01-07-2003, 06:27 AM I'm like H's Alter Ego, with finance running out at the beginning of March.
Seems to me the dealers don't really know (or aren't letting on) about deliveries for the Aero as I get different dates from different ones (from 4 weeks to 4 months!).
Dealers/Saab seem to be keen to get your deposit but not so keen to deliver the car!
A real shame as I was prepared to spend more than I am now on a nice sporty saloon car and it was the first time I have ever considered buying a Saab.
Another thing - why hasn't the automotive press picked up on this - I haven't seen anything mentioned in AutoExpress, AutoCar or any other publications?
Perhaps I'll be back in years to come.
Perhaps when AutoExpress have been back to see if we have any new pics of concepts for them to publish, then they will pick up on this
kprm77 01-07-2003, 06:43 AM If Saab GB aren't delivering the goods, maybe it's time to speak to Saab Sweden:
From an earlier 9-5 thread:
Either contact the GB customer services department, or do what I do - go to the Saab Global web site, and in the Contact us / Feed back section send a mail directly to Customer Services in Sweden.
The people currently responsible there at the moment are Uls Laarson, and Elizabeth Johnston.
If you prefer, here are the tel numbers:
UL = 0046 520 84833
EJ = 0046 520 86811[/b]
I would recommend that people always speak to the dealer first in an effort to resolve issues.
If you can not resolve your issue with the dealer then speak with Saab GB in Marlow.
Contacting Sweden should be a last resort and only if you really are at an impasse with your dealer and Saab GB, that way you can show Sweden you have done everything possible to resolve issues locally.
I would advise if you do not get satisfaction with your dealer then try a different one. I wouldn't touch my local dealer with your bargepole - which is why I'd rather travel to Berkshire (or Surrey sometimes) to speak with a helpful dealer.
Madcap 01-07-2003, 01:17 PM Hello board.. new to saabscene but reading the board for sometime now.
Just recently ordered my new SAAB Aero and I must say I'm not at all happy with the whole experience so far..
Test drove the Vector with full body kit an absolute amazing drive while on my 24hr test drive got a phone call while just pulling up at the hospital "can we have the car back" can't say i was too happy, but I was hooked and decided to purchase the aero..having never bought a brand new car ever..
Was asked on many occasions at the dealership wether i wanted the vector kept saying no, I want an AERO, eventually it sank in, ok sir I'll order it(06/12/02), week 10 is the sailing date so expect delivery last week in March which is fair enough(if that is when it will arrive).
After being totally insulted by the money they offered me for my car I sold it private, so phoned back last week, to get an update after being promised updates(not getting one)was told he still THINKS it will be shipped week 10, tried my hardest to pin him down and couldn't get him to budge.
now i'm starting to look around at other cars (very reluctantly).
Oh yeah and to add insult to injury my private buyer has said he will wait until 1st March for my car so asked saab if they could lend me one for 1 month at very most(there words not mine),
cannot do free of charge but will do it for no profit what so ever(very kind of them)
£300 plus VAT.
so my first impressions of saab are not great.
ps..really want the car though, must have done 20,000 miles in it already(head)..lol
Redleicester 01-07-2003, 05:01 PM Another thing - why hasn't the automotive press picked up on this - I haven't seen anything mentioned in AutoExpress, AutoCar or any other publications?
*[/b]Unfortunately my Mythological friend, (great Marillion track BTW!) Saab don't really feature on the scope of the Motoring press. No one ever knows how to pidgeonhole them - Execs or Rep cars? Daft bunch.
Also, I think obviously you and I and doubtless many others have been stung by shoddy ordering and delivery times, but in comparison to the other exec manufacturers, Saabs order lead times are still remarkably short. There was a point five years ago when you could take delivery of a band new hand-built Morgan roadster quicker than you could a 5-series BMW. This still occurs today, albeit Morgan have reestablished themselves as Kings of LOng Delivery - spec up a 3- 5- or 7- series, and you'll be looking at six or eight months. For an X5 it's even longer, and God forbid you should try and order a specified Mercedes CL, SL, or CLK - you'll be still waiting the far side of NEXT christmas!
Still, it isn't what we were led to believe, and for that simple issue, it is inadequate, and they've lost our orders, and will doubtless lose others.
Maeze 01-08-2003, 12:19 PM I think it depends on the dealer, not Saab itself.
In Mid-March 02 I ordered an Alfa 156 GTA Selespeed. After five (5!) times of changing delivery dates, at least up to April 03, I quit the deal - which will cost me CHF 2000.
Then, Mid-October I saw the new 9-3SS the first time and my girl and me have been: Wow!
We test drove the Vector for two days (for free!!!) and ordered an Aero 1/11/02.
Now as I don't have my own car right now, my dealer (Hirsch/Ruckstuhl) offered me a car (9-5 or 9-3) from Mid-February until the Aero arrives - again for free!!!
Now two weeks ago they called me and I was said, the Aero will be here at the end of March.
It really depends on the dealer you talking to.
Cheers, Marcel (Switzerland)

griffin 01-10-2003, 12:47 PM @ Maeze

I hope Hirsch won't give you a Troll or some other double- http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/fawlty.gif car, because otherwise you maybe will bi disappointed after chanching back to your aero

kprm77 01-10-2003, 04:19 PM Welcome to SaabScene Madcap
I'm afraid yours is not the only account on Saabs failure to deliver the goods (pardon the pun) as far as the Aero is concerned.
There is already another person on this board who has cancelled his order for an Aero - how many more Aero orders will be cancelled.
Which dealer is it? Is it Beechdale?
You'd have thought whoever the dealer, that they could offer at least an old part ex to you for a month to keep you happy. After all you're spending a very big chunk of money with them.....
Hope everything turns out okay with your order
Madcap 01-11-2003, 12:09 PM thanks for comments buddy and yes It is Beechdale Saab at Derby..
I do believe in naming and shaming may make them pull their socks up..
another thing about Beechdale is must have asked the salesman aleast 6 questions which he couldn't answer, surely they should know their cars inside out,not as if theres alot of models..
ylee coyote 01-11-2003, 02:11 PM When I was looking at the 9-3ss when it first came out I popped into beechdale to hae a look..
what a bunch of uninterested to55ers
very very unimpressed
grendel 01-21-2003, 10:39 AM Has anyone got any more info from their suppliers with regard to delivery dates for their mythical cars?
Maeze 01-21-2003, 11:07 AM @griffin:
Yes your're right: I'm the same one. Will send you pics when delivered.
Still waiting and counting days... (66 left!) http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
@grendel:
Here in CH they talk about week 12 now, but that seems to be rumours...
Countin' on...
Marcel
saxelsso 01-24-2003, 02:42 AM Got my order confirmation today, delivery scheduled for 10:th of May(!). But there's also a disclaimer that the date is just preliminary... I guess that means it won't arrive earlier
Cheers,
Stefan
StanleyB 01-24-2003, 07:48 AM You can't blame them for putting in disclaimers. Imagine your car ending up at the bottom of the North Sea. Oh my, that's already occured before... Oh well.
Madcap 01-24-2003, 11:15 AM Got my order confirmation today, delivery scheduled for 10:th of May(!). *[/b]When did you actually order your Aero mate...interested if you ordered before me?
saxelsso 01-24-2003, 12:19 PM Imagine your car ending up at the bottom of the North Sea.[/b]I'm not sure why my car should do out there. I hope they take it by truck from Trollhaettan to Helsingborg
When did you actually order your Aero mate...interested if you ordered before me?[/b]Order date was 2003/01/17
Cheers,
Stefan
And yes, I've added a counter on my PC
Madcap 01-24-2003, 12:42 PM Order date was 2003/01/17
*[/b]Oh ok..I ordered mine 03/12/02 so good 6 weeks before you thats promising then..
Not had order confirmation though...
Maeze 02-13-2003, 05:19 AM Yesterday I was sitting in a black Aero!!!!!!!!!
My dealer got the first one (autom. transm., no packages). Wow! Everybody who has ordered one: It's gonna be GREAT!
Mine is confirmed on the 20th of March!
Marcel
potto 02-21-2003, 03:38 PM Just seen not one but 2 http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif
Nidd Vale main dealer in Harrogate has 2 Aeros in , so they are shipping at last. Went to buy one this week, trouble was, they couldn't do me a decent trade-in on my old 9-3 so am buying a 9-5 3.0Tid vector instead
saxelsso 02-22-2003, 09:46 AM They begin to show up at dealers in Sweden as well. Sat in a Graphite Green one yesterday in Kristianstad, Sweden. Dealer said they were prepairing for the introduction in mid-March. Looked real nice, but I must say that Graphite Green is very much Graphite, and not much Green
Cheers,
Stefan
kprm77 02-23-2003, 03:12 AM Any pics of the dealer Aero's??
wrighar 02-23-2003, 05:49 AM Sabers (spit spit) have just one 93ss, it's a showroom car in the new showroom style. That's it for 93ss's all other cars are 9-5's 9-3 convs and 9-3's.
One car, and you can't even drive it!
Andrew
saxelsso 02-23-2003, 11:06 AM Any pics of the dealer Aero's??[/b]Not the best quality, but anyhow here are three pics (taken with my mobile, indoor in poor light conditions...);

Glad to see my aero body kit looks identical except the boot spoiler is the width of the boot on the aero and mine goes over the rear wing by 40mm.

saxelsso 02-25-2003, 04:07 AM That is a black Aero, correct? On the close-up it almost looks dark green or grey...[/b]It's called "Graphite Green", which is a VERY dark green colour. In anything but direct light it looks black. It's a new colour for MY03, also available on the 9-5 series.
Cheers,

Saxellso - are you using a Swedish mobile phone, or a Finnish mobile phone to take those photos?
Texas 02-25-2003, 08:29 AM saxelsso, thanks. I need to see it in person, but from the pictures it looks great.

Viggen 03-02-2003, 05:41 PM Well I'm about to order an Aero, tomorrow if I get time to pop into the dealer. I'll let you know my experience. So far so good - great treatment on Friday (especially considering they were trying to get all the new March 1st deliveries ready!) and a not-too-bad deal on my existing convertible. Took the weekend to mull it over and finalise the specs.
Shame I can't have bluetooth or integrated phone though.
Viggen 03-03-2003, 05:21 PM Order placed. Black with Parchment, full lthr upgrade, ES-13, and some other goodies. Day 1 and the clock is ticking.

Viggen 03-04-2003, 07:31 AM Don't know yet - very rough estimate was in around 10 to 14 weeks, but should have a factory production week number some time in the next couple of days. I'll keep you posted.
saxelsso 03-06-2003, 04:51 PM Got a call from my dealer today, my new car is ready during the next week! Should have been here in early May, so that's two months earlier.

grendel 03-07-2003, 12:56 PM Glad to hear that the Aero's are finally trickling their way into existence.
I got fed up with the wait (Nov 99) and I've just taken delvery of my 200bhp+ cheaper alternative.
Good luck to all those still hanging on and enjoy the car when you get it, they still look the dogs.

Took almost two months to get a quote for a new STI, poor offer on my old car (£15.800 compared to £20.385 from Saab) and no discount on the new car. No wonder that they can't sell any cars.

captain aero 03-18-2003, 03:28 AM Dealer confirmed SS Aero delay due to chip problem on Aero model only -
Once boost goes into "red" engine management goes into 'limp home mode'.
All chips on SS Aeros were replaced (or are being replaced) by Saab GB early March - not by dealers. Should be sorted by now I presume.
And the next time my c93 Aero is in for service I'm being given the MD's SS Aero for the day -
How can I "wind" the SID 'time for service' forward?
Arf Arf Arf
grendel 03-18-2003, 12:05 PM Saxelsso - shame you had a bad experience with your dealer, I've had nothing but great things to say about mine (Quenby Bros Baldock).
Sure I've lost a fair chunk of refinement (electric seats, climate control) and toys etc. but I've outweighed that with the performance of the WRX plus the lower monthly costs based on the finance (with maintenance) of the 2 cars (the list price of the 93SS is significantly higher with the options I wanted).
Not to say that I wouldn't revist Saab in a few years time, hell if they hadn't had the problems or at least communicated clearly what they were and when I could have my car delivery guaranteed I wouldn't have sought out an alternative.
Enjoy yours when you (eventually) get it - I'd love to do a back to back comparison.
nestoraero 03-18-2003, 04:16 PM Hi to everybody.
I ordered my new 93 aero about a month ago and the dealer said that the delivery time will be 10 weeks. Not bad e?

Viggen 03-25-2003, 05:19 PM I can beat that ... I was told 10 to 14 weeks, got a call a week later with a date more like 5 - 6 weeks. Expecting the car Easter weekend... I'll miss the convertible but having test driven the Aero last week, I know I won't be disappointed! Besides, my girlfriend just bought a M@zda MX5 so if I really need to drive with the lid off, I'll ask nicely ...
nestoraero 03-25-2003, 07:51 PM I also got a call from my dealer. He told me that I could have the car by the end of April,BUT,I wont be in Belgium for the delivery,I will be in Greece.Lucky man e?
Anyway,I will have my AERO by the 15th of May.
Tomorow is a test drive day,I will be driving the AERO for the first time.
More details about it,tomorow, same time, same chanel
nestoraero 03-26-2003, 12:54 PM Just came back from the aero test drive.
F A N T A S T I C http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/fawlty.gif
Powerfull engine,VERY strong brakes,no turbo lag, very friendly to the driver and very good handling while turning with high speed.
I drove the manual 6 gearbox and it was like a joystick.Only when you want to make some really fast changes, gets a bit hard from the 1st to the 2nd gear. The 1st gear is too short, imagine that when I tryed to see the time for 0-100km/h,after 2 seconds,I had to change to 2nd because I felt the car slowing down(over 6000rpm).
The sport suspension is not to bumpy,as expected, but if you are looking just for a very comfortable car, then this is no car for you
Also, any of you guys that are used to driving below 2000-2500rpm,you'd better change this way when you get the aero.It is not dead, but you need more than 2500rpm for the 210hp to apear.
For me this is not a problem, because the price you get for high rpms,is the"music"from the turbo charger.
After this,I will start counting the days and the hours, for the delivery of my aero
Neil M 03-27-2003, 07:00 AM Saw 2 Aero's on the road today - a Black one and a Red one, both with blacked out windows. Both looked pretty good, but think I preferred the black.

saxelsso 03-28-2003, 12:24 PM Going to pick up mine tomorrow at 10 am CET

This is my stealth rev range, which works amazingly well with my engine setup.

StanleyB 03-29-2003, 01:26 AM You could say that it is a stealth Viggen. 9-3SE from the outside, Viggen engine under the bonnet, and AERO seats. ECU remapped to my own specification to take into account my driving style.

Before you remap it,how did it felt below 3000rpm?
I guess that it was a bit like the aero that I drove. No third gear below 30-35 m/h?
Can you tell me where did you remap it and what was the cost?
StanleyB 03-29-2003, 04:40 AM The previous sub-3000RPM performance was notably non-existant below 2000RPM. Partly because the T5 ECU and B235R engine were not properly in tune with each other. Put in another way: I have seen Nissan Micras pull away from me from standstill at below 2000RPM.
The ECU was remapped by Dan at Abbott Racing( he told me that it was the last SAAB ECU he remapped). I told Dan the sort of curve I wanted, which is one a bit flattened out at low revs and moved to the 3000RPM range. Then I wanted no turbo lag. And lastly I wanted earlier turbo spool up. He had a program for this, which Abbott calls their T6 ECU setup. This allows for a turbo response from around 1500RPM by opening up the throttle valve a bit wider on low rev. This technique is actually also used by SAAB on the T7 and T8 ECU.
Price was £395 to me.
Performance wise it is a blinder, with no nasty power surges below 3000RPM, and NO flat spots. 50 to 70MPH in 5th gear now takes around 6 sec.
Post-4000RPM usage is however of limited knowledge to me at the moment, due to a certain amount of fear on my part. But I have offered Mark_A a try in my car if we ever meet. His driving skills appear to be A-1. I think that I would also trust BillJ and Scaero Owner with my car.
As a side note: Micky, the owner of Two Stroke, took my car for a 15 minutes burn out. he came back white as a sheet .
nestoraero 03-29-2003, 02:05 PM Sounds VERY good to me
Maybe when I have some kilometres in my aero and abbott has new settings for the 210hp engine,I will pay him a visit.
After all,it's not too far from Belgium to the UK. http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/fawlty.gif

wrighar 04-08-2003, 03:37 AM I saw my very 1st 93SS in the road in Norfolk today, and just to top it off, it was a silver Aero that was going round the roundabouts and onto the southern bypass.
I followed him for a mile before passing so I could see the side and front.
Andrew
StanleyB 04-08-2003, 07:20 AM I was speaking to a new AERO owner the other day, who complained that the turbo lag was a lot more pronounced on the AERO when compared to the Linear. Has anyone else noticed this?
