Sorry, not trying to outdo your story, but must relate this one.

around 10 years ago, travelling on back (a) Road between Dover and Folkestone, behind a 15 mtr bulk powder tanker, spare wheel (BIIIG) on side of tank.
Anyway, it fell off (50 mph this is) and just bounce alongside lorry for around 40-50 yards, and landed on the bonnet of oncoming Volvo(340 style).
It half demomished her car, I dive out of my car and hauled the screaming women out, called police etc for her.
She was very shaken, but amazingly unhurt, apart form glass scratches.
How could a someone let a wheel become that loose or unsafe ??? It was a nearly new lorry...

Andy.

Kevin,I think the Ministry will be jumping all over someone about that errant wheel, most wagons are fitted with plastic gizmos that tell you whether or not a bolt has moved, without those it is very difficult to check a wheel.
20 odd years ago, when I worked for BRS,must be longer than that, anyway one night a driver phoned me from Spittalfields,he had stopped for a cuppa and had walked aruond the trailor, only to find a pair of wheels missing.despite a search by the Met',and all Police forces between Newport Pagnell, the last time the wheels were seen, and where the truck rested. Those wheels were never found.

On holiday in Florida back in '98, similar occured to me. Going along highway just minding our own buisness. Then a large wheel hoves into view coming diagonally across from left to right, over the very wide central reservation and on to our carridgeway.
Before anyone can decide what to do, it rolls and bounces straight through a gap in the traffic ahead of us and into the undergrowth at the side of the road. Nobody had to brake or swerve at all. Lucky one that, as it was reasonably busy.
Nick.

Almost related tale but amusing in a sick way...

Just approaching Potters Bar on M25 the other day, watching lad's driving a sand lorry leering and hooting at lady in open-top Madza. She's egging them on by staying level with them despite being in outside lane (lorry on inside lane).

*Bang*

Lorry blows rear tyre with spectacular rubber shower, startling Madza lady so much she span the motor at 58ish coming to a stop facing the wrong way (probably wearing diff, colour trousers too).
I wonder if they swapped 'phone numbers afterward?

John.

58 on the M25?? sounds implausible to me.

Agree. 5 or 8 is more likely

Absolutely confused now
(Just seen the other post suggesting that 4 spacesavers are the best wheels on a Saab).

On M25 tonight I was overtaken by an Audi A6 with family, roofbox and all the holiday gear. Well loaded, 80mph plus with a skinny spare on the front wheel http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif

Maybe somewhere there is now a wheel that's fallen off a car!
