What model is your car? From the problem it sounds like a GM900 (1994-98)

On this subject, does anyone have any idea of how to program a remote fob. It seems that every time I want any work done by Saab, they seem to want me to take out a morgage to pay for it. I wanted a spare fob to be programmed and they wanted to charge me for an hours labour, at £80.00 a throw, I thought not. A new fob costs around the same amount, but would probably require the additional programming time!!

Any suggestions???

Cheers.....

JOHN, HOW DID YOU GUESS IT IS A GM900 (1995)

Hi nsavage

Ah, that would be telling.
Let me guess again. Is it, by any chance, a Cobra remote Alarm system?

Let me guess further...
You get out of the car, shut the door, press the button "beep, beep" central locking locks... then unlocks. Press button again "beeeep" to "unlock car" which is already unlocked. Then press button a third time "beep, beep" and this time the car locks and stays locked.

Am I right?

Hi John

In a word NO! It's the standard Saab system with a desire not to let me into the car espically when it's raining.

Ah, we were close.

My Father has a GM900 (1994) with the symptoms I describe. Unfortunately, we have not been able to resolve the problem - and I do not know the answer to yours, either.

Anyone else help on this one?

Ah, my father says it is a Scorpion alarm system - but still has those problems. Says a bit of WD40 on the locks gives temporary relief.

I have a Simba alarm on my 97 900 which does the same thing - especially in the rain.

Having been away for two weeks on holiday I went to unlock the car and found that the whole central locking had given up and only the drivers door would unlock (with the key). On trying to start the engine, I got nothing. Thinking it was a dead battery I jumpstarted it from another car and found that the "Lock" button wasn't doing anything but all of the rest of the electrics seemed OK.

I switched off and started the car again on its own battery without a problem. Trying the locks again I found that they worked.

Could this be a damp-weather related electrical short which cleared itself?

Encountered a locking problem with my 1994 900 SE Turbo just the other day. Key in the driver's door wouldn't turn the full way round to the left to activate the alarm. Tried WD-40 and brute strength but nothing worked. Then the whole central locking system packed up. Then, low and behold, it all started working again and has been fine since. Very odd.

With the recent weather I have found exactly the same problem with my Saab 900 SE (1998). It has a standard Saab alarm, and seems to do it when its wet, and can be cause for concern, especially when you leave the car overnight. I have to make sure that its actually locked before I leave the car.

I changed my batteries in the fob with no avail, just seems to do the same at a greater distance, when the the weathers dry!!

In triplicate ;-)

Let's hope the fix works. Be sure to let us know if it reverts to a mind of its own
