From the Sunday Times, 23 February . . .

"Mark Smith . . . wrote to vent his spleen at the cupholder on his otherwise 'superb' new Saab 9-3. 'Not only does a single cupholder take up as much space as the handbrake, it is actually very hard to get a cup into it,' he says. 'The first time I tried, I managed to get the flesh between thumb and forefinger caught in it, and even drew blood."

Simple answer. Remove cupholders from cars ...or don't use them. I just can not understand the current automotive trend for, and customer fascination of, cupholders.

Whoopy-doo - something to hold my cup. Wow - I really must buy a car with seven cupholders http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

It's a gimmick. The guy deserved to draw blood for being so stupid.

Sorry JohnSen, wasn't meant to be cryptic.
Just meant that I couldn't dream of drinking coffee on the M1, http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif
but on the E45 it's a pleasure, sometimes a necessity http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

I wouldn't try drinking coffee on any British Motorway! http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif

I know what you mean about some of the european roads though.

One thing I learnt fromm cup holders, and I got a few in my car, is that they are of NO USE for cups .
Only small bottles appear to be of any use in those cup holders. A bottle of 1664 or the like, or an un-opened cup of Mac Donald's chocolate drink is fine. But for anything else, forget it.

I admit I never used a cup holder until the 9-5. Now it regularly used for a can of pop. Plus all of my cups have a handle and don't seem to fit in.

Why don't they just adopt a more accurate description for the cupholders and call them McFizzyDrink holders...

Personally I'd rather have more space to put my sunglasses or other nic nacs than a poxy "cupholder".

McFizzyDrink[/b]Surely these are what B*W "cup" holders are designed for. I can't believe any Saab owner would even think about stepping into one of those establishments that prefixes all their products with "Mc".

I'm moving this discussion to non-tech saab stuff in the car park - I think it is better placed there
