Saab 9-3 Sport Sedan first to meet new Swedish car security standard

The new Saab 9-3 Sport Sedan is the first car to meet a tough new security standard for locking systems drawn up by the Swedish Theft Protection Association.

After receiving the new TFFN01 certificate from the Swedish Fire and Security certification organization, Lars Evenson, Project leader - Security at Saab Automobile in Trollhättan, said:
“We now have it on paper that the new car is burglary proof. It is very satisfying because everyone has been working very hard to achieve this recognition.”

Engineers at Saab have produced a locking system which makes the car pointless to try to steal or steal from. The audio system, for example, is ‘electronically married’ and cannot be used in another car without being recoded by an authorized dealer,

Saab has been working closely with the Swedish Theft Protection organization and the Thatcham insurance research center in the UK to improve its car security standards.

“They are familiar with the methods the thieves are using, which has been of invaluable use to us,” Evenson says. “So many parts of the car have been security coded that it is impossible to give it another identity. We also have a close cooperation with the Swedish police and Europol.”

Doesn't stop a man with a gun, though http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

Strange that they're making a song and dance about the audio system being married to the car, when this has been going on for years.

True.....
Mind you I did see a programme on TV here, last year, about some company in SA that's designed this under the sill flamethrower anti-carjacking device........ http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif
Got one of these fitted to the Aero yet James...?

Yep, I've heard about those, but never actually seen one. Personally I reckon if someone wants the car they can have it - if they can catch me

Found out the other day there isn't a single documented case of a Saab being hijacked - you're in the most danger in a Toyota Corolla
