2002-10-17 Saab vehicles score well in two new safety reports
Two recent separate US safety reports have scored Saab vehicles, and its drivers, favorably. Saab 9-5 is one of the world's safest cars.
First, the American National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) recently released their New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) crash test results for 2002. In this test, the Saab 9-5 Sedan received the highest possible rating, five stars, for the driver and front seat passenger in the frontal impact crash test. The NCAP reports crash test results in a range of one to five stars, with a five star rating for the top level of safety performance in the test. "We are pleased to receive the five star rating from NHTSA, especially as we know that this test has a great impact on the market. These kind of tests often works as a guide for the customers", says Per Lenhoff , Manager Crash Safety at Saab Automobile AB. Saab vehicles, and the people who drive them, also scored well in a non-related report published by the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI). The Saab 9-3 5-door topped the midsize four-door category, the 9-3 Convertible finished second in midsize sports cars category, and the 9-5 Sedan was fourth among the midsize luxury group for relative frequency of injury insurance claims. HLDI's study, covering model years 1999 - 2001, compares cars on the basis of cost of injuries sustained following on-road crashes. The study measures both the frequency a given model is involved in a collision and the frequency with which crashes result in injuries requiring compensation from an insurance company. Saab congratulates its drivers who significantly helped achieve these top scores. Saab's real-life safety philosophy puts priority on systems and structures that help protect Saab occupants during a real-world collision. Although Saab conducts laboratory crash tests - including simulated animal collisions and truck-to-car side impacts - it is real-life collisions and their infinite variables that drive Saab safety engineers and their work. A vehicle's safety performance is the product of many factors, including driver and occupant behavior, personal judgment and other variables. The design of the car also influences its real-life safety integrity. These reports show that Saab and Saab drivers perform well together in the real world.
