USA: GM vehicle sales fall 5% in January

DETROIT, Feb 1 (Reuters) - General Motors Corp. said on Thursday its U.S. vehicle sales fell 5 percent in January to 343,548 units.
GM, the world's largest automaker, said car sales fell 4 percent to 177,192 units while truck sales dropped 6 percent to 166,356 units.
The results include sales of heavy trucks and GM's Saab unit. Sales comparisons were adjusted to reflect 26 selling days in January compared with 25 in January 2000.
GM also said its North American vehicle production forecast would remain unchanged at 1.2 million vehicles, which includes 566,000 cars and 634,000 trucks. In the first quarter last year, GM produced 1.521 million vehicles, including 746,000 cars and 775,000 trucks.
