TROLLHATTAN, Sweden -- Saab Cars USA Inc. will meet with its dealers in the first quarter of 2001 to lay out Saab’s plans for future products.

In preparation for a new and expanded Saab lineup, the company wants half of its U.S. dealerships to have exclusive Saab showrooms by the end of 2002, says Dan Chasins, president of Saab Cars USA, a sales and marketing arm of Sweden-based Saab Automobile AB.

But Chasins knows Saab dealers won’t invest in their dealerships unless they see proof that the new Saab cars and sport-utilities are coming.

So far, about 60 of Saab’s 207 U.S. dealerships have exclusive Saab showrooms.

Last year Saab introduced a showroom design that emphasizes Saab’s Swedish heritage and its "post-modern exclusivity" brand image. Its goal is for about 100 of its U.S. dealerships to adopt that showroom design and create exclusive showrooms for Saab vehicles.

Chasins, in Sweden for an automotive press trip, says Saab will unveil its "detailed product plans" to dealers at a meeting in the United States or Sweden.
