I have tried a search but could not find out anything. I note from Elkparts site the Leon thinks it the biz. How is is so good and is it so much better than rainX?

a bottle costs about £4 or so and last about 18 months approx. treating front & rear windows, as and when needed about every 3 months or so..

I applied it in January... and have not had to touch it since!

It is still working today... But does require a bit more 'wind' to be fully effective, the effects are wearing off.. I'll need to order some more!

have used both- i think Rain-x is better. Far easier to apply thats for sure.
Just remember that you are not supposed to apply the coating in cold weather so do it now before winter.

I have the Ombrello on all my windows. It seems to last about 10,000 miles for me. But I do a lot of London driving where it is too slow for Ombrello to work - so lots of wiper use. If you are a motorway man I think it would last a lot longer.

It works especially well at night. Needs higher speeds in light mist/wheel spray. Loses effectiveness on older windscreens where the wipers have left fine abrasion. But then I found that was true of RainX and Rain Wizard as well.

When I used RainX I was recoating every month, now it's every 8 or 9 months.

SWMBO now refuses to drive a car without it.

I have used both Rain-X and Ombrello. There is no doubt that Rain-X is good but I got fed-up of having to reapply every 4-5 weeks. I tried Ombrello and can get the same performance as Rain-X for much longer before reapplication, typically 10 months on a car doing around 25,000 miles a year.

I think Leon was a bit sceptical about Ombrello when I first told him about it ...until he tried it.

It's horses for courses, really. Rain-X does the job if you don't mind applying it more often.
The Fox is correct, Ombrello must be applied as per instructions - Rain-X is easier to apply.

Thanks for the insight. I have used Rain X and Fog X for years especially on the motorbike and I liked it, all except the slight smearing. I have the Auto wipers and wondered about the effect on them. I find that in the morning if the windscreen is not dried by the wipers they go on and on. Eventually I switch back to manual.

I know BillJ was seriously impressed during the drive through Holland, lots and lots of rain, and a serious lack of wiper action http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif

Don't forget these glass treatments keep the other windows clear. Optimum view in door mirrors.

And it's exceptional when passing HGV's on the motorway.

Just bought some RainX in Tesco's and hope to apply tomorrow, weather permitting.

IMHO (yup, I can do humble ) Rain-X works best with new wipers and a good condition clean windscreen. I applied it to my c900 in December 2000 and I didnt have to re-apply it until the same time the following year. Even then it was only to top-up the existing stuff from the previous year, where the wiper had left their mark. Applied annually since.

My only comparison is with rain-x applied to a newer car. My brother had a new st2oo M0nde0 company car and is into all things performance coatings wise, (car paints etc). I put it onto the outside of all his windows and straight away, it was much better than first done on my car. Lasted in perfect condition for longer than on mine too. Most of his miles would be motorway as well.
