The headlining on my 900 is falling down, does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do about it?

Hi, drooping headlining is a classic feature of the classic 900. There is a good article in the latest Saab Enthusiasts Club mag detailing how to fix it. Details of joining are elsewhere on TSP - well worth it, I had a great time at last weekends national.
Anyway, you could tack or screw headlining up but the only real solution is to remove the headlining and recover it. Headlining material is foam backed and it is this foam that breaks down. I'll dig out the details and post them for you.

Sadly I am suffering the same problem & likewise searching for a solution.
Can anyone help ?
Detaching the headlining from the roof would seem to be fairly straight forward, but can anyone recommend the simplest way to remove from (2 door + boot) vehicle ?

You can remove the headlining from 2 door 900s (and 99s for that matter) by either removing the rear window, which apparently isn't has horrendous as it sounds, or by removing the front seats, steering wheel and gearstick and manouvering it out of the passenger door. Whichever way you go, take care because the headlining is very fragile. The problem with sagging is caused by the foam backed material separating (ie. the bit you see separates from its foam backing). Material and foam must be removed fully, leaving the headling shell (either foam of fibreglass) as clean as possible (use either wire wool or an assortment of blunt scrapers). New headlining material is available from a company called Woolies in Peterborough - I think they have an eponymous website.

Thanks for the advice Julian,I contacted 'Woolies' & have just received sample headlining material which seems to fit the bill. Thanks again

Glad to be of help. Let us know how you get on (I've a roll of material that's been sat in my dining room for months, waiting to be fitted to my 99 Turbo!!!)

For what it's worth, I removed the headlining panel from a 4 door 900 through the boot, after removing the C & B pillar trim panels. I removed what was left of the original material by brute force & a sanding block. I had to glue up a few torn edges with PVA glue & some cotton strip & then applied new headlining material with aerosol caerpet adhesive. The result was only partially sucessful, because I had to finish off with another fixative which was not up to the job (not its fault) but it survived until I could sell it, to buy a 900S Aero with a sunroof, apparently the best solution!
