Bought a CD changer (Clarion CDC 634) for our newly-acquired M96 CS aero - fitted with Clarion radio/cassette system (the one with the removable coded control panel). There is a cable routed to the wheel well - looks as though a CD changer unit has been fitted under the floor before but removed before the last owner acquired it - but it has no power on it, nor does the changer operate when connected and the radio is turned on. I've checked every pin for power - I assume that one of them is the +12V pin - but forgot to check whether one of the pins is earthed. It seems that the cable has been disconnected from the head unit ... so ... how do I remove the head unit from the dash? Special tools or bent coat hanger? Advice much appreciated, please.

I remove mine with a couple of small allen keys. or small drill bits. Ease one side out slightly at a time will come out no problems

I used a piece of bent wire to get mine out, locate in each hole and push together.
When i fitted my changer found it useful to unclip the ashtray out,as it was directly beneath the head unit.you might be able to reach round with your fingers to feel if the lead is indeed connected without removing the head unit.
If you got a lead with your changer then it might be best to use that, connect it to head unit first and try it before feeding it under all the trim.Hope this will help you.

Thanks - the idea of removing the ashtray is a good one as it should give access to the rear of the head unit. I think I did that on our previous 9000 several years ago (herself has had three 9-5s since that car) so I should have remembered the "trick". Too dark now so will try it in the morning. Didn't get a lead with the changer but I'm pretty sure there was a clarion unit in there before (the holes match up!) so it should be okay (fingers and toes crossed!).

The cd player is mounted so that it is central within the wheel well. It has a set of brackets which enable it to be mounted horizontally or vertically (obviously horizontally in this case).

Thanks I've just checked and there are all the right holes I'll get to it now.

[/b]Mine is there too, I think it is where Saab fitted them as standard when an upgrade was requested when new. Mine is a Sony 10disc Changer. Fits wonderfully.

I'll be doing a super Aero spare wheel modification soon, I'll loose a bit of boot space (floor will be about 1 and a half inches higher, but it will mean I can go on long trips without worrying about driving all the way home on a space saver!
