Hi all you 'HAPPY' SAAB people, some advice please from those of you that may be in the know.
I'm think of giving my9k a bit of a treat, like putting her into a SAAB Main Dealer for a service, She has covered 76k mls and the service guy at SAAB suggested a 66k full service, and the cost to me would be just short of £400.
Does any body know what I get done for that and is it worth it? TIA.
Andy

doesn't it depend on the car value? I paid £1000 for my N reg LPT. I would not, therefore, pay £400 for a service. But then, i am approaching 190k miles on mine. Yours is much less.
A great deal of things are just checking items. I would do the "service" items and spend £30 or so on an MOT to check the components etc for wear. It does, however, depend on your DIY competency etc. If you feel more comfortable paying SAAB, then do that.

[/b]I'm confident that DCA have done a better job for less dosh than Reading or Newbury Saab ever did. The only time the bill even approached £400 was when they fixed quite a number of broken bits. The dealer services were never less than £400 (and sometimes £600-700) after they'd fixed (at dealer prices) what they claimed was wrong.

In other words, I'd go to a good independent instead

[/b]I see the net present value of the car as being largely irrelevant to the cost that you are prepared to spend on maintaining it. It's all down to the degreee of care you want to take to protect your "investment" or prolong it's life.

You can save money on the regular services by doing some of the easier items yourself. Looking at the schedules you can identify these items.

Now don't take this the wrong way, I'm a trained machanic, 5.5 year App/ship. with ford main dealer, have not worked for a living on my tools since 1982. I just wanted to hear from others regarding MS servicing, £400 is a ripoff for what they need to do. SOULHAND, where do DCA hang out these days, I used to buy from them a lot but seem to have forgotten where they are?
/JOHN thanks for the URL.
I used to take my old SAAB 9kT to a guy in soton, SS Motors, where I was doing the miles about 1000 per week servicing came aroung quite a lot, he never charged me less then £300, that's when I started to get pedoff, so when I bought this one I'v been doing it myself or the local guy. Thanks for you input.

A competent non-franchised Saab specialist will do the same job for less money.

There is negligable benefit in having a main dealer stamp in the service book over that of a non-franchised Saab specialist - especialy for cars 5+ years old.

So I can't recommend a main dealer service, unless paying £400 for a 66k service gives some peace of mind - especially if one doesn't know reputation of an alternative service agent.

The Service Handbook/Pack should include a card with service items and milages printed on it. Anyway, Johns link gives the full summary.
