Just seen an interesting article here (http://articles.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0BQA/is_5_81/ai_87692990) which may be of interest.

Great isn't it?

Does anyone know the best place to tap the output from the crank sensor on later models, and what the output should be? Is it square pulses like the old Hall sensor, or is it sinusoidal?

It's still described by Saab as a Hall sensor. On the 9-5 it's activated by a couple of missing "teeth" in 59 on the ring. So it should give a short blip for about 3% of the revolution. Probably doesn't matter on the shape in that case. I think the 9000 uses a slotted drum rather than a toothed ring to activae the sensor, but the principle should be the same.
