Guys,

My 2.0CS Auto is becomming quite poor on fuel, with an average of 24mpg. This was 28-29mpg a year ago. I intend to service it this weekend to change filters, spark plugs etc.

Do you have any other suggestion to improve economy. i.e. clean throttle body, idle valve, airflow meter.

Also, has anyone by-passed their CAT. Is it a simple (off the shelf) job? What are the benefits in fuel consumption/performance.

I guess its becomming more apparent with the crazy fuel prices we are having to pay. It cost me £57 to fill up the aero the other day!

B.T.W Its a non DI- do I need a particular type of spark plug/gap?

Cheers
Simon

A good service makes quite a difference - check all your tyre pressures too. Also - as you roll to a stop at traffic lights, make sure the car doesn't 'stick' in the last few inches as the brakes may bind a little - it all adds up.

Removing the cat must make a fair old difference as I remember when they first came out, all the power went down a few bhp, and so did the official economy figures.
