I have a problem with the passenger side headlight wiper motor. It is making a loud squeaking noise, when I use the washers.

Is it safe to spray it with WD40?

Is this a sign of imminent failure?

Help on this matter would be appreciated.

Hi Mazy,

By all means go ahead with the WD40 or whatever, there is a metal support for the wiper spindle just out of sight underneath the headlamp which might be the source of the squeak. If WD is sucessful for the longer term you could try a spray grease or similar, some are availible that start off thin (to penetrate) and thicken to protect long term. I've tried a Comma product (name escapes me) that had graphite in it to lubricate, it did the trick on some very old (25 yrs plus) rusted bolts at work.

Difficult to say whether this noise is a prelude to failure but I doubt it, unless you don't address it and the spindle seizes that is!

Nick.
