I'm trying to get hold of some streeing fluid but the SAAB dealers say I must use SAAB fluid only. I'm sure that's probably not strictly true - how are older cars run if not on "equivalent" parts ? Anyway, can anyone tell me the equivalent type of fluid I need (in the UK) - I guess it's got a "BS2 number but I can't trace it. Anyone know what I can use ? (I know it's got to be the "white"/clear" type......)
Thanks, Phil

Sorry dealer is right you should only used the genuine Saab fluid (made by Texeco I think) as seals used are only compatable with this fluid. Malbrad in Huddersfield confirmed this to me. Its very expensive from Saab (£12/litre??). Anyway, a group of people I know bought 25L from Texeco and took 5L each at about £2/L. Did the same with the 900 convertible hood fluid. Anyway still got my 5L in the garage

Has anyone got the specification off the Texaco tin then?

I just found this on a posting - could it be the right GM stuff to cover for SAAB
fluid ?
"GM Power Steering Fluid (GM Part No. 1050017) or equivalent conforming to
GM spec 9985010"

Saab have been using the Texaco stuff for donkey's year - long before the GM take-over. So I suspect that it is not the right stuff.
