: TCS Fault

Hi Folks,
Anyone out there experienced this?
My 1991 9000S 2.3 Turbo has developed a fault. The history is this:
May be unrelated, but heater hose recently blew, pouring steam all over
engine. Luckily I stopped before any engine damage occurred! Replaced hose
and all seemed to be OK, until, whilst sat in slow moving traffic, TCS
warning light came on and engine stopped. Managed to restart car in
'limp-home' mode, very difficult to drive like this. Realised that I hadn't
clipped some wiring back to a bracket after doing the hose and thought the
problem might be 'heat-soak' through the wiring. Clipped wiring back up,
and all seemed to be well, until 2 days later, when sat in same traffic jam,
same fault occurs again!!
Cleaned/ checked all connectors etc.
I can drive the car as fast as I want, uphill etc and this fault never
occurs. But after a few minutes of sitting in slow moving or stationary
traffic, the fault comes back. If I leave the Air-Con on, so that the fan
runs all the time, the fault doesn't seem to happen as quickly. If I
disconnect the master cylinder electrically the system seems to reset until
the next time it gets hot.
I'm becoming more & more certain that this fault is heat related, but why???
Does anyone know what equipment you need to 'interrogate' the system for
fault finding?

Please has anyone ever come across anything like this?
The fault renders the car almost un-driveable.

Many Thanks

Hi Pete,

I had a fault that seems similar to yours. My Saab 2.0 low pressure turbo (1992) started to hesitate after driving about 10 miles, the light would come on for a short time. Over a period of a couple of weeks this got to the stage of almost exactly 5 miles after driving off, the engine would stop and the warning light came on at the same time. After a 10 minute or so wait, I could restart and the rest of the journey was fine. I worked out that this seemed to be to do with the bits under the bonnet warming up.

It was cured by noticing the an electrical cable that trails over the top of the AC pump was loose. Look at the AC pump, across the top on mine is a cable that drops down around the radiator side of the pump. On the top of the pump there is a clip and a connector link in the cable sits inside this clip. My connector was not in the clip. I popped it in the clip and waggled the two halves of the connector about for luck, in-case the connection was poor. Hey presto, the problem went away.

It might not solve your problem solution but it's worth a look.

Regards
