After fitting a new timing chain to my 1990 9000 turbo, i found the engine still noisy , investigation showed the peg that is part of the inner oil pump gear to be worn and the corresponding drive slot on the crankshaft to be elongated, moving the peg round to an unused slot on the crank considerably helped.
Has anybody else come across this problem ? Has Saab modified these parts?

I fitted new timing chain guides and chain when I last did the head gasket on my 9000 Carlsson (1990). The engine had done 192k miles and I saw no wear on the parts you discribed. However the oil and filter has been changed every 6k throught the cars life. After changing a couple of noisy hydraulic lifters the engine is very sweet, just the sound of the injectors spoils things.
I too had the timeing chain (and balance shaft chain) changed at about 140k miles.
Now I'm not as technical as Adrian, but the mechanic didn't pick up on any problems. Mine too is a 1990 - but a 2.3. What's yours?
