I had a set they lasted two days before they were nicked! :(

If they last any longer they will seize onto the threads of the valve through a chemical corrosive reaction!

Just for show, remove on ordinary days.

Right - tyre fitters warn against these as they often bond to the valve.

I have chrome metal valve covers which i tighten my caps against using pliers (and a cloth to protect them) - they have even resisted theft from scousers !! To stop them corroding i always put a squirt of white lithium grease inside before fixing. It does the job fine, used metal caps for years now. I know the light anodised aluminium type do corrode really badly but these are chrome on steel and with a bit of grease they will be fine. I dont park anywhere too dodgy and its garaged at home so hopefully they will remain in place - time will tell.

Steady there rob - beware causing offence, us scousers are really tired of the "joke". Especially coming from woolybacks. And police and insurance company staistics show that Liverpool isn't the riskiest part of the country for car theft, I think Nottingham came out top.

Seriously though, doesn't the grease negate the effect of tightening with pliers...?

Exactly this has happened to me, due to get new tyres on Saturday so I will ask the fitters to throw them away.
