: Headlamp Adjustment Servo Problems

Neither of the headlamp servo adjusters work on my newly acquired '95 9000 Aero. It seems it must be electrical and a bit suss that both don't work - fault could be upstream of the servos.

I have one out and in bits and its not got anything obviously wrong with it internally. The cable to it has green, blue and black wires. I have assumed black is earth. Can't find it on the Diakom circuit diagrams.

There is +12 Volts between the blue and the black wire feeding the unit. If I mess with the position of the internal potentiometer slider the device will reset itself when energised from a 12V supply to the blue connected pin (+ on the PCB) and Black connected pin (- on the PCB) on the internal PCB.

it also resets itself this way when deliberately disturbed then put back together and plugged into its wiring connector with the headlamps on, so I believe it is internally OK.

Not sure how the setting control works or how it could fail though? Do the controls fail?

Any other problems that might affect both servos? Looking for someone who has had this before...struggling to get the control out currently.

Thanks,

A bit dated, but should tell you what you need.
Cheers.

This was actually bizarre and is ongoing. I was looking at the wrong headlamp for the problem, the N/S. Neither moved. I didn't say but I also has one headlamp wiper not working, the O/S. When I removed the O/S headlight I noticed the wire colours on the servo motor plug and socket did not match, they were red, white and black. A bright garage spark somewhere had had the headlamp out and swapped the wiper and servo motor connections. So I went looking for damage.

After a big wind on both headlamps they stopped moving again and only spasmed a bit when the control was moved. The voltage out from the green wire is just under 12 Volts and barely changes with control adjustment. Hardly the 1/2/3 Vincent D referred me to.

I am guessing the control was effectively shorted and damaged so will get another.

The headlamp wiper now works when I use one that is good, the fitted one was anyway faulty. I only have a good nearside wiper assembly, any way of seperating the shaft to swop it over?

PS And the government want to stop people like us looking after our cars, probably the only safe way to maintain a car.

Thanks. I have the offending mechanism out already and await a replacement control for the headlamps from Neo. The headlamps now wind from one extreme to the other when the control is present or removed, but are not adjustable by it, so I am hopeful it was damaged by the misconnection and the replacement will do the job.

While tidying up found a brown and black wire pair with a short stick transducery thing hanging down by the chassis above the a/c dryer. Was asking the guy at Neo while ordering the control and realised what it was - the water bottle level sensor - which probably has to have a new bulb as it was not illuminated... cowboys.

I have taken the point that saab9000.com is the place to go for repair procedures, I already got the a/c compressor re shimmimg procedure from there. Who runs this? Is it anything to do with SAABscene? Not sure I can be bothered to start repairing motots, but I have a number of headlamp wipers so can cannibalise. The problem with the one I have is it does not keep going once activated by the trigger signal (Yellow wire?). Which suggests the maintaining switch is not being closed when it comes off the parked position. Maybe a total heart transplant from the LH working one to the RH broken one..

Will look here next time, thanks,
