As above really...
I've had a quick search but couldn't see anything obvious - in short, is there a consensus on this? My old LPT needs a new pair of fronts. I've previously run Michelin Primacys but I'm trying to keep the car on the road with the minimum of expenditure and therefore looking for something a bit cheaper.
Kumho KU31 / Toyo Proxes T1-R ?
Any thoughts appreciated on these or anything else.

I'm probably going for these on the barge early next year.

Falkwn FK452s. Very impressed when comparing them with Goodyear Assymentrics. £70 ea from Camskill and get them fitted for around £10 each. Or £86 fully fitted from Blackcircles.

I agree with the above or the Kumho Ecsta sports> I have them on my 9-5 and they seem very good!

I'm trying some of the Neutons from Neo Brothers, so far they seem very good for the price but I've only done a few thousand miles on them yet.

Many thanks gents. I've gone for the Falken FK-452s, got them for around £88 fully fitted (from Charlett's of Yarnton, just outside Oxford, like a mini-Micheldever for anyone who knows them, and recommended).

I got a pair of Falkens from Black Circle 19 months/20k ago. I'm having to change them already.

Not surprised by that really; I was warned they weren't long-lasting. Yer pays yer money etc. In my own situation I didn't want to commit over £600 of Michelins to the car, but I did really rate the Primacys.

I'd say 20k miles is pretty reasonable for a pair of tyres on the front of a big heavy FWD car.
I get around 8k out of mine. The Falken 452s wore better than the Goodyear Assymetrics. Grip and wear resistance tend to be inversely proportional to one another...
My impression is that the Kumho 31s are even softer- the other half has a pair on the front of her GM9-3 and I reckon they'll need replacing after around 10-12k.

Hi Mark. I'm glad I'm not the only one who can make tyres last less than 10k. My old Peugeot 309 GTi would wear out Goodyear Eagle NCTs in around 8500 miles. But I get around 12k out of front tyres on the 9-5, driven just as vigorously.

Yup, I'll be pretty content with 20k if it comes to that. Two-thirds of Primacy mileage at half the price. As a PS I note that the recommended pressures for Falken are higher than others - they stipulate 42 front 39 rear for my 9-5 (MY99 saloon, 16").

My Vreidestein Ultrac Sessanta's (the one's with the fancy tread pattern) seem to be doing fine. Now done 7k on them and they are wearing well and grip still as good as ever.
I must admit on my aero they hold the road in the wet much better than the Falken 452's that were on there but then they only had 4mm on when I got the car.
I've also heard their Ultrac Cento is very good and a little more quieter
