I thought I’d post this here on the off-chance that someone frequenting this site might have done this before.
Prior to going out on the track this coming Sunday, I need to have a fire extinguisher in the car. I bought one during the week (surprisingly inexpensive*) and given that I don’t want it flailing about the cabin whilst I generate maximum G’s http://www.trollhattansaab.net/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif I thought I’d better mount it somewhere in the car. Actually, I’m probably required to have it secured anyway.
So, that led to the problem of me not having a clue about how to go about it. Of course, there’s the basic theory of “just drill some holes somewhere and bolt the thing in” but I figured I’d ask first, and see if some experienced souls could recommend a better way. If not, I’ll probably just drill baby, drill!
I’ve done a quick search and came across this installation in a Lotus Elise (http://www.sandsmuseum.com/cars/elise/experience/modifications/fireextinguisher/fireextinguisher.html). It looks pretty neat and the accessibility makes sense. I’m going to have to check the underside of the 33’s seats, though, and see if this is possible.
Does anyone else have any experience with this, or can you recommend a link?
Thanks in advance.

Also, who already has one?
When I started searching I was surprised by the number of car-on-fire stories there are out there. It’s never crossed my mind to have one in one of my cars before, but I guess it makes the utmost sense.
* the one I bought is a dry chemical ABE unit, 1kg capacity. It cost just $35 at Autobarn here in Australia. A small price to pay for relative peace of mind.
One pitfall: we had a guy here in Tassie with a very nice Saab 99 EMS who kept an extinguisher in the car. His car was broken into one night by some you hoons and of course, they set the extinguisher off, changing is brown interior to a white one in the matter of a few seconds.
