: No boost (and what's this pipe?)

I was testing my new strut brace (which is indeed trivial to fit) and sod's law says something else went wrong.

I got a whooshing of a lot of air, and no push in the back, so presumably no/only base boost (Abbott ECU in an lpt, so no boost gauge).

A little poking about under the bonnet and I spotted a pipe that looks like it's out of place (see the pictures below).

What is the pipe? I can pushfit it back into a whole under the gray metal thing which seems to be where it came from, but is it supposed to fit tighter than that, and if so what holds it in? (I can pull it out again fairly easily).

I haven't tried driving after pushing it back in.

This is very commmon from what I can make out, the pipe in question fits into the bottom of the throttle body, the brass part comes loose and eventually pops out altogether giving you your whooshing sound and distinct lack of boost, other than replacing the throttle body the only thing you can do is try to re-attach the brass pipe into the hole from whence it came using devcon or similar maybe plastic metal or something

The hose on mine is fitted tightly with a jubilee clip. You may need a bendy screwdriver to tighten it.Is that the metal of the clip or has a pipe snapped http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif

Take pipe out of hose carefully without distorting it, not easy, clean up hole in throttle body use high temp, strength locktite, its the green coloured stuff. Leave for a few hours to harden then replace pipe.

Yup, it looks like the AIC valve pipe. Take the whole throttle body out- don't both trying to clean it in situ.

I just went for a drive and it seemed to stay in.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't just carry on and see if it blows off again?

Anyway, off to DCA later to see if they think anything else needs doing.

Mine has the same problem and it took me a month to find a new throttle body. It's not the most elegant of solutions but during that time I used a few zip-ties to hold the pipe in place - it worked fine.

Simon @ DCA says they're normally araldited in, and suggests an application of carburetter cleaner then araldite it back in.

So I'll try that.

[/b]Couldn't get the pipe out of the hose, so I just cleaned the end up, and the hole in the throttle body and tried some araldite. Not too happy with the small amount of glue that actually went in, but I'm assuming even a small amount should hold it?

If this doesn't work, next time I'll try the loctite - where can I get that?

Yep mine did that - I too use carb cleaner and then JB weld (better than araldite IMHO).
