My 1996 9000 2.3t has a hole in the exhaust and it looks like it'll not be long before there's a few more appearing.

So, with a view towards getting best value from a replacement exhaust, I've started looking at whats available.

The car only has 77,000 miles on it and I would intend to keep it for at least another 5 years.

It has a BSR/Speedparts stage one ECU, modified air box, JR filter and heatplate out though my main criteria for an exhaust is not necessarily increased power, longevity is more important.

So my choices would appear to be :

Replace sytem with

1. standard.
2. standard stainless.
3. 2.5" or 3" mild/aluminized steel (BSR, JT)
4. 2.5 stainless steel ( BSR,jetex,elkparts)

Looking at prices It would seem that I can buy a sports for about the same price as a standard one and I can get a sports stainless sytem for not that much more.I would add that I'm not remotely interested in anything other than a cat back system. I'll replace the expensive bit only when I need to .

As I've said already though it is more more important to me that the exhaust lasts and in addition I don't want to increase the noise excessively and I don't make the car look like a ricer.

Given that I live in the North of Scotland and the local roads are covered with salt for 10 months of the year I am leaning towards a stainless sytem.

Does anyone have any thoughts or experience of the BSR/Jetex/Elkparts stainless systems or any general advice.

What I would say is if you are thinking about keeping tha car for a few years, what about PowerFlow..? They will custom build it to the car with any tail pipe design you like and any noise level you want too. Also it will have a lifetime guarentee as long as you own the car..

I'd echo what Ant says. Got a powerflow exhaust on my 9-5, great build quality, a choice of about 30 different tailpipes, and all custom fitted in about 4 hours. The lifetime guarantee is subject to an annual inspection by any Powerflow dealer.
Total cost? About £400 all in. http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif

Forgot to mention, they will even tailor the exhaust note to your liking. From standard note, to burble, to growling.(mine burbles)

Other possibles who fabricate SS exhausts are Long Life and Larini Systems.

While these suggestions are welcome they would cause me some other problems.

1. My nearest Powerflow dealer is a fair trip away - then again everywhere is a fair trip from the Highlands.

2. I would get away with having an exhaust delivered as SWMBO would be oblivious to the cost.
Driving for an hour and a half to get one made to suit would be likely to raise eyebrows & voices.

Ironically my better half is from Yorkshire which, when it comes to matters financial, makes her a damn site more canny than even an Aberdonian

Well, I bought a Forge dump valve from ebay, had it delivered to the office, and will be fitting it under the guise of "just changing the spark plugs dear" this coming weekend . Obviously I WILL be changing the plugs as well. http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

If you're a member of the UK Saabs Owners Club, they offer a discounted SS exhaust scheme for members. I can't remember the exact price at the mo though http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif , but it's quite reasonable http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif

plus a Safety Devices cage,
Sas rear anti roll bar
Works type fibreglass arches
American spec grill/ lights,
New turbo,
2x16" cooling fans
Full set front brake calipers
Hydraulic handbrake mechanism
Brake master cylinder
bearings,rings,gaskets etc..etc..

& I forgot to tell her about them

Oh I forgot - a stage one kit for the 9000 too.
Got that one by as " you only have to buy this solenoid to turn our car into a full pressure turbo"

I know I won't go to heaven - but who cares.

Now does anyone know anything about these exhausts ? - not Powerflow

So if we want to blackmail you, we just have to threaten to tell your other half what your Saabscene ID is, huh? http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif http://www.saabscene.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif
