Hi all
try'd doing a search but couldnt find anything like my symptoms:
On my 1997 CSE 2.3 FTP:
If stationary, If I shake the steering wheel back and forth over a quarter turn (if taht makes sense) I get a knocking as I change direction of the steering wheel.
Also when parking, as I turn the wheel back and worth I get the knocking then too...
Any ideas??
Thanks in advance
Anthony

its play in the joint between the rack and the track rod.its like a ball and socket joint(like your hip) so there is no repear possible

simon [/b]So its not a problem then. Its a very faint knock, that really you only hear when listening for it.
My MOT is this month so I guess this will not be a problem??

Another possibility: play in the subframe- the bolts have to be tightened just right

Dunno- tightening of the subframe bolts seems to be a black art- I've just had mine all done today, but the knocking has got worse

i have been told by wise woman that if the front shockers turret mounts are worn, this would cause a knocking.i could feel play on them in my carly if bounced on the wing and held the mount at the same time.just another idea into the melting pot!!
